Don't you just love running around and killing everything in your sights with a rail gun? You do? Then this game isn't for you...

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin places you in the highly polished shoes of 47, a professional hitman for hire, and chronicles his journeys all over the World on missions to assassinate various terrorists and Army generals.

Sound dull? Its not. After working out the controls in the training area (the control system is complex) you are given your first mission,to kill a Mafia Boss responsible for kidnapping a close friend of yours and then escape safely. After recieving a quick briefing and an assortment of weapons you are thrown straight in. The rest is up to you.

"Fine", you think, "I'll go in that door, grab his uniform then go inside and kill the boss, easy", a few seconds after opening the door you get shot in the head by a guard.
"But but but, I WAS IN A UNIFORM! HOW DID HE SEE ME?!", Its not that easy. You need to act like a guard too, so when they run, you run. Also, if you are not carrying the same gun as them they will recognise you instantly. Right, so Restart Mission...
Try going in as the postman... (the game allows you to take the majority of peoples clothes to use as a disguise, more on this later)Kill the Postie and get his clothes on, pick up the flowers and leave your guns outside, in the delivery boy's boxes. Get in the gate and walk up the drive... BANG! Dead again. Postmen DON'T go in people's garages.

It is this realism that makes the game so enjoyable. The sentries sight is as good as your own, no yellow cone signifying where they can and can't see, so a disguise is always a good idea. Many missions can be completed by just walking in the door and shooting everything however, and has no major implications, unless you want to unlock the secret weapons.

Other missions include using a sniper rifle to kill a Russian general then escaping as fast as possible. Another has you as a waiter at a party, giving you the opportunity to poison your target in champage, or food, or of course a knife in his throat. Perhaps the most satisfying mission I have played is in the Malaysia section of the game. A hacker has stolen a very important piece of software which threatens the stability of global peace. Grabbing a fireman's outfit and slamming a fire axe in the back of his head solves the problem (along the way Samurai swords and even Golf clubs become available as weapons).

Steath and subtlty are a must in this game if you want to complete it successfully. Overall this game is incredibly addictive and intense. The graphics are magnificent, actor models are so near human its scary and the up and coming release of a game sound track points to the high quality choice of music.

This game requires a lot of patience and skill. It also demands a lot of a computer system. I strongly recommend this to fans of the Metal Gear Solid, Mission:Impossible and Headhunter games. Expect to be playing it for at least a few months.

Utter brilliance in CD form.
