My partner treated me to a day at Hoar Cross Hall for christmas!! After looking after our one year old everyday he thought I deserved a relaxing time!!
I was going by myself so decided to book quite a few extra treatments to keep myself occupied and had my hair done, a manicure, an Idian head massage and an eyebrow re-shape.
I arrived 10 minutes before my first treatment and rushed to the changing rooms.... after I was showed where they were- it wasn't obvious where they were!!! I then found my way by following the little map they provide. It's not a huge place but it's got lots of doors so it's handy having a map and different named areas.
Anyway, I had my indian head massage first which was quite painful. The lady who did it was very nice and friendly but I think because I wasn't actually tense it just hurt my muscles when all I wanted was a soft relaxing massage.
There's relaxation music playing all day (although I normally listen to rock music it was really nice and relaxing). My indian head massage lasted about 50 minutes and she did my head, face, shoulders, arms and hands- which surprised me!!! She used an indian smelling oil (Like when you go into an oriental or indian shop they sometimes have it burning- smelt lovely!!) and was very proffessional.
I then went straight and had my manicure with the same lady. She massaged into my hands all these creams and lotions and smothered it on my nails too. She treated my cuticles and pushed them back with this weird electric machine thingy (like a pneumatic drill but not painful hehehe). She then wrapped my hands in cling film, put them into another plastic bag thingy then popped them into a heated hand thing for 10 mintues. (Like a jiffy bag on each of your hands). It was lovely and heated up every few minutes.
She then took my hands out of there and carried on massaging them and adding lotions. She then shaped my nails and took great care over this. She used a special brush to get rid of eccess nail and then painted a bottom coat to help my nails as they were dehydrated (they had lines in them so it helps re-store them) She then painted on the colour I chose (and got to take home with me) and then the top coat which I chose (a sparkly one) and then added some dry quick drops to them.
She told me they took 30mins to be touch dry and an hour to be fully dry... but I had my lunch due in 20 mins after my treatment!!!
After each treatment you're taken to relax in an after treatment room with a cup of water given to you.
After I relaxed for a bit, I made my way down to the restaurant and was seated and given a menu full of posh food. I didn't like anything and was offered the buffet too... which I didn't like so they asked what I'd like (I wanted pizza preferably but didn't like to ask hehehe) and asked for a chicken and mayo baguette which they gladly made for me!!! They lady who served me was called Joe (with an 'e') and was so friendly. She bought me ice cream for my dessert- which was bigger than everyone elses!!! From looking at the portion sizes of everyone else's food- it looked very small, but was obviously filling.
After my lunch I went to "Temptation Cafe" and had a glass of coca cola, which they add to your tab using the piece of card given to you on your arrival with your locker number.
After my drink, I went to my locker, which on arrival you programme in your own personal 4-digit code, and isn't too bad to work for the tech-phobe. If you're worried there's plenty of people to help.
They leave a brand new book which is complimentary, from Hoar Cross Hall's owner. I didn't read it but bought it home with me anyway!!! I might read it and make millions one day!!
I took my book and some magazines with me to read, and read I did!!! I went to the "Atrium" which like it's name, is in the heart of the building! Opposite main reception, you lie there in your robe, on one of the many leater settees and you can sleep, read, snuggle up to a fleecey blanket (provided) or just listen to the relaxing music. I read for a few hours before having my back massage which was included in the deal which my partner bought me. Again this was quite painful although the lady was gentle with me as I have back problems. (I was massaged by the same lady as before)
I was then taken to the after treatment room and sat and watched the wind blow outside the window for a bit before heading off to reception where I was asked to go and asked to re-schedule my eyebrow re-shape. I gladly set a time for 30mins from then which gave me enough time to grab a drink and slice of cake...
I went to Temptation Cafe and had a slice of chocolate victoria sponge which was quite stale. I also had a hot chocolate which they obviously used very cheap cocoa!! It took ages for the lady to make and resulted in me making my eyebrow re-shape 15 minutes later than I had re-arranged.
I think those 15 minutes were a hint of trying to save me... I had a lady called Oswold or something and although she was very nice and friendly...she was a devil with tweezers!!! I thought I was going to scream the place down!!! I lay there for 10 minutes trying hard not to wince from the pain as she removed each hair and skin from underneath it!!! It felt like she was using a sharpened fork!!! If I had the bottle to do it, I'd have complained about her, but instead I shall moan on here and SERIOUSLY advise you NOT to have an eye-brow re-shape!! Or at least not by her!!!
After some serious torture, I went to re-coup in the atrium and read a little. After nearly falling asleep, I decided to take a tour of the place and went upto the shop that they have... It's got lots of posh make-up at very posh prices too... and has relaxation cds and some diet books. It then has another shop off the back which sells boho style clothing at posh prices, and only go upto a size 16- which sadly duffed me out!!
After wandering around with amazement that they are allowed to charge such prices for obvious charity shop purchases I go back downstairs, and purchase another drink and lounge on the settee some more.
Again I nearly nod off so walk upto the shop where the hair dressers is by- off a door through the side. There's lots of doors and only a few signs but I found my way there. And ended up waiting for 10 minutes until the hair-dresser arrived.
She was very quiet and didn't hardly speak until she'd finished my hair. She washed my hair very thoroughly (No it's not dirty, she was just good at her job!!!) and then cut layers into my hair, trimmed the dead ends and dried it.
When I commented on how pleased I was, she decided to talk to me then hehehe!!
Anyway, after a tiring day of relaxation and pampering, I paid my bill and left at about 6.15pm. I was met by my mom and step-dad who complained about having a boring day stuck in the pub as there's nothing to do around lichfield whilst waiting for me!!!
If I was to rate my day, I would give it a 7 1/2 out of 10.
Oh and I forgot to say they give you a little timetable of your treatments, they supply robes and towels and earplugs if you wish. They also have clocks all over the place so you shouldn't be late for appointments!!

Advantages: Beautiful place, great staff, loads to choose from Disadvantages: Doesn't come cheap
Hoar Cross Hall is a health spa near Uttoxeter in Staffordshire. Recently a mate and I treated ourselves to a day there.
The place itself is beautiful. It is a very, very old hall the size of a stateley home in gorgeous grounds. The grounds include a wood, various lawns, a topiary garden and a sweet smelling lilac garden. There are statues and fountains everywhere.
The hall is spectacular - all wood panelling, plush settees, polished floors, thick ... ...lady of the manor!
Hoar Cross has several workout rooms, a gym, an indoor pool, sauna, solarium, steam bath and various treatment rooms.
Outside there is a golf course and archery centre to name but two of its amenities.
I paid sixty odd quid for a day. This included any classes I wished to take, unlimited use of the pool, sauna, steam room etc., lunch, as much coffee and tea as you can drink, and a back and shoulder massage which I saved for ...

Advantages: A fabulous, fabulous experience Disadvantages: Slightly tacky and quite expensive
I recently gave up smoking and having always wanted to have a spa break, chose to use the money I had saved for this.
I went for two nights in June and really enjoyed it - to the extent that I returned from 4 nights last week.
The place itself is quite easy to find from the directions given and, on first impression, looks fabulous. When you look a bit more closely, it starts to look a bit like "more money than taste" - I mean - chandeliers in the ... ...ballroom, it is all period portraits and wood panelling, then you spot portraits in oils of your "happy chairman" and mrs happy chairman - as I say, a bit tacky but who cares.
The minimum stay is two nights and that cost about £350 - a 1/2 hour facial or massage is included in that as is a "hydrotherapy experience" - which is file. Into a warm bath you sit, bubbles pummel you starting at your feet and working up to your back - nothing wrong so far ...

Advantages: You're left to do your own thing, even sleep if you want to! Disadvantages: Early lunch and noise (the free ear plugs would be useful!)
...Spa which is adjacent to Hoar Cross Hall with my friend for a girl's day out and it was very relaxing and very highly recommended! The changing rooms are very clean and comfortable and in your locker you're given two towels and a very nice robe which I wore for the whole day! We booked in for continental breakfast which consisted of fresh fruit and yoghurt, pastries, bread, cheese and meats and cereals. With fruit juice and tea or coffee. The food ... ...with three courses (including a buffet of salad, vegetables and other hot food). I had a facial, eye brow shape and back massage which were all lovely, except the eye brow shape which hurt, a lot! We spent a lot of time in the spa areas and they were lovely and relaxing, but after a while, the water starts to really sting your eyes. We finished our day with champage and truffles, which are a box of six hand-made chocolates fresh out of the fridge! ...

Quick review of Hoar Cross Hall (Staffordshire)
Arrived on the friday night and stayed during saturday. Rooms were ok- beds really soft and not so comfortable---massage i had was good, hower pool area and steam rooms were very busy. It was difficult to relax as there were loads of screaming woman shouting about how cold the plunge pool was ect. (maybe they were just excited-i think its a haven for hen parties). I think there should be more emphasis on people respecting that others would like to relax. Or maybe I have been too spoilt in the past. On a plus side the meal on the Friday night was good, but had to queue for 15 mins for lunch on the saturday. Go to a local spa and save your money ...
