...this. Telling people I play hockey and being asked “Oh, do you skate”, or “you mean ice hockey?” or “Isn’t that dangerous, all that shoulder charging and stuff?” No, no, NO! Advantages: A great sport to play, really exciting and enjoyable Disadvantages: Injuries do sometimes occur, and they are usually painful, some equipment expensive
...of ways, the pitch in hockey is very similar to a regular football pitch. There is a centre circle and centre spot, and the pitch is divided into two halves. The pitch is usually around the same length and width of a football pitch. There is also a penalty spot at either end of the pitch, but the one main difference between a hockey pitch and a football pitch is the goalkeeper's area. In football it is a rectangle, and the keeper cannot handle the ... ...astro-pitch, which is used for hockey mainly because you have much more chance of the pitch been flatter with less bumps on a well-built astro-turf pitch, and they are also much cheaper to maintain. I've never played on a grass hockey pitch, so I cannot say what it is like, but there is certainly nothing wrong with playing on an astro-turf pitch!!
The Rules
There are a hell of a lot of rules in hockey. They are quite easy to remember, but much ...

Advantages: Get to keep fit and have loads of FUN. Disadvantages: Watch out and dont get hit by stick right on your teeth, it kills.
...Hockey, Hockey, or Field Hockey as it is known in some parts of the world, is a stick and ball game with origins dating back thousands of years. It is traditionally played on grass, but more often these days - especially at the top levels and in certain countries - hockey is played on synthetic surfaces. I play really really enjoy playing hockey with my mates either at school or at college. Hockey requires some one who has stamina (for running) and ... ...you can not play hockey without an ice pitch or a big arena well you can play hockey on synthetic grounds.
To play hockey you will need 11 players on each side, one of which will be in net (goalkeeper) prefrebly with mixed genders to make the game much more fun and exciting. The other 10 players are referred to as 'field players', and are dispersed over the field of play. The field players can be put into three general categories - attackers, defenders ...

...hard balls!! Field Hockey is a great game it requires alot of fitness and a high level of skill and althought not as popular as football or rugby it still has a large following.

...of the wonderful sport of hockey – not really a technical review of the laws of the game! I may get around to that another time.
I am retired now due to family commitments - 2 children and an unco-operative husband. Ah well I have lots of fantastic memories of my 21 years of playing hockey. I only played for one club - Sherwood (who were one of the top clubs in the country), sadly no longer in existence as they have merged with our once great rivals ... ...the Hockey Centre in Nottingham.
Hockey is quite a technical game and you have to know the rules to play - unlike football. Very basically, it is a game of 11 a-side and played on a pitch slightly smaller than a football pitch. Now most games are played on synthetic surfaces (Astroturf being one), but I don’t think you can beat a bowling green grass pitch. Although the game has now developed so much that I suspect it is only really playable properly ...

Advantages: Great fun to play. Easy to pick up. Disadvantages: Kit is expensive.
...Let me make one thing certain. In this opinion I shall not be writing about Bradford Hockey Club. It is the only hockey opinion available to write about.
When I looked up 'Hockey' I was dismayed to see almost all the poinions were on Ice Hockey. Surely Ice Hockey would come under 'Ice Hockey' not 'Hockey'.
Hockey is a fantastic sport to play, as I'm sure hockey fans would agree. Unfortunately, it recieves almost no publicity whatsoever.
Ice Hockey gets support from the violence that constantly goes on during matches. But what kind of sport deliberately practices violence to gain support? (Boxing is the only exception) Hockey is a fast and hard game. It is generally not violent and it definiteely deserves more recognition than it gets.
The one flaw to this sport, is that equipment is expensive to buy. But generally...

...because players are always going on and off the ice but after a hwile you can follow what's going on.
There is two types of play being defence and offence. The aim of the game is to get the puck into the opponents goal and prevent the oppentents from scoring in your own net.
ice hockey is not at all like field hockey. It is faster, involves a lot more contact, is on ice - obviously - and is generally much better to watch and play.
i recommend anyone to get down to their local ice arena to check out a hockey game because they really are fun.
As for prices, they vary depending on how good the team is and which league they are in. the games I go to are all fairly cheap....

Advantages: Keeps you fit and healthy, a very competitive game. Disadvantages: People get the wrong impression and then do not take it up.
...position is right wing, an attacker. It has always been my position and now find it quite difficult to play well in any other position. Both wings are the perfect positions for a player who has natural pace, and is good at handling the ball at speed. You will get goals from this position and it is generally very flexible in what and where you can do and go on the pitch.
As mentioned earlier, hockey is by no means a gentle sport. It is meant to be a non-contact sport, and to a great extent it is. But you will pick up a lot of injuries by playing hockey and will experience a lot of barging etc. This is not allowed, but to keep the pace of the game up (hockey is a very fast paced game) most referees are quite lenient about physical contact. You will come across some reckless players when playing hockey, and these are extremely dangerous indeed...
