...So accustomed to seeing Kerry in the majority of tabloid publications over the last couple of years, this did not not inspire me to reach for 'her story' from the local bookstore. However, after receiving it for my birthday, I gave it a chance. Taking into consideration the apparent courtship Kerry has with the media and the harsh criticism she sometimes receives, this book surprised me. Clearly a victim of her selfish and, unstable mother, Kerry has, and still is it seems, battling with her inner demons. An all too common story of a child having to grow up too quickly. Written with brutal honesty, Kerry tells how suffered throughout her childhood at the hands of a woman who should have protected her from such experiences. ...Enduring Love is the story of a chance meeting between Joe Rose and Jed Parry, resulting in Jed being convinced Joe is in love with him. The novel, written by Ian McEwan begins with Joe (the narrator), and his partner Clarissa enjoying a picnic. Upon hearing shouts they race to the scene of an accident where a hotair balloon is threatening to take to the skies with a small boy onboard. This incident bares significance in many ways, most importantly with the meeting of Joe and Jed. The incident ends in the boy being saved but the death of a fellow person, John Logan, who was trying to bring the balloon to the ground. Joe becomes racked with guilt about whether he let go of the balloon first, causing the demise of the other men holding on.
