Holistic massage is quite simply a massage that is applied by a qualified masseuse with a consideration of the whole of the receiver being considered. By whole I mean their physical, psychological and emotional state. The object of all holistic massage is to relax or invigorate the body and mind of the client. The ultimate goal is to allow the mind, body and spirit of the client to reach a point of balance and harmony. Or in bio-talk homeostasis.
A Holistic Therapist will conduct an interview with the client to establish the client’s suitability for treatment. It could be that after an interview the client is unsuitable for a holistic massage because of an underlying physical or psychological condition such as diabetes, epilepsy, high blood pressure or schizophrenia, psychotic state or extreme emotional disturbance. Or the client may gain more benefit from another form of treatment that the therapist may recommend. The therapist will ask questions about live style, diet, sleep pattern, activities or hobbies they are engaged in to build up a picture of the client and establish what type of holistic massage would be most appropriate. Please don’t be put of or worried about being interrogated, if the therapist is trained, qualified and experienced the interview will be an informal, relaxed and friendly experience. The therapist will explain what will happen during the massage, how long the treatment will last and give the client plenty of opportunity to ask questions about the treatment. This is also a time for the client to get to know the therapist personally and hopefully will feel more relaxed and comfortable enough to prepare themselves and alight on to the table with out nervousness.
The clients privacy and dignity are paramount at all times and the proper respect to somebody placing total trust in the therapist must be protected at all times.
The therapist will give the client a choice of medium with which to receive the massage. I know I am making this sound a bit clinical but it’s the fasts way to say an awful lot. The medium chosen could be one of: Cream (preferred on very hairy bodies because it reduces the risk of painful knots in body hair forming during the massage). Natural plant oils such as sweet almond-nut oil or wheat germ oil. Or mineral oil (which is a derivative of oil extracted from the earth’s crust and suitable for clients with an allergy to natural plant oils such as sweet almond-nut oils or wheat germ oils).
The therapist may recommend an Aromatherapy massage and when they do this they will explain why and what the client would gain from this type of treatment. Aromatherapy (I won’t do it justice here. It is a fascinating topic and huge) is a massage performed using natural plant extracts that have unique and massage enhancing properties.
After the treatment the therapist will ask the client not to consume alcohol (or any other stimulants, including tobacco, tea and coffee) and to eat a light diet for the next twenty four hours. They will also be advised and this is very important, to drink plenty of water and refrain from hard physical activities again for the next twenty four hours. If the client goes against this advice they may suffer from what is called a healing crisis. The symptoms of this can be similar to flue, with headache, weakness, aching limbs and a debilitated feeling. The severity of the symptoms can vary from all of the later to a mild headache. If the advice of the therapist is adhered the possibility of a healing crisis will be minimised. A healing crisis is not dangerous and the client will recover from it completely. This is what causes a healing crisis. The massage releases toxins that build up within the muscles. These chemicals are as a result of the chemical exchange during cell metabolism.
It could be the client already desires one form of treatment over another and if this is so the therapist will respect and honour their wish.
It is a privilege and an honour to have another human being trust you and allow you to not only share their personnel space but perform what is an intimate and personal service such as this. I enjoy holistic massage very much and have found it nearly as beneficial to perform as to receive. Mind you it’s been a few years now since I received a professional massage.
I feel very humbled fortunate to have had the opportunity to train and take up this most rewarding of carriers. I quite often work mobile and I also work for a private physiotherapist. When I visit clients who are experiencing pain I look at what is going on within the family unit. I have found there is some times psychological turmoil within the family attributed to the poor condition of a family member. I have found by treating the two adults of the family the primary client receives the most benefit and they work together more harmoniously. I have found it so important that I frequently offer the second adult a free treatment or two if financial considerations prevent them from taking up the offer.
I have been a holistic therapist for three years and I could write pages on this subject but to prevent folk getting to bored I’m gonna restrain myself for now. I might add more to this tomorrow because there is bound to be something important I’ve left out. If you need any more info please feel free to contact me.

...old acquaintance is a professional Holistic Therapist, who does mobile appointments. This meant that he came to my home, brought the table and all the towels and oils and even some relaxing music.

I think that is the hardest part, if you are a bit shy, is getting undressed for a relative stranger. I found the whole treatment first class and would recommend anyone to try it. Don't feel you have to have a problem, an ache or pain. This treat is relatively ...

a health shop and booked me a ?massage?. When she told me she did not know what it was called but I went for it?I needed it! I had a stiff neck, back pain, and joint stiffness.
As soon as I got there I discovered I was having Shiatsu. I was a bit disappointed but liked the idea of not having to remove my clothing. What I liked about the therapist was her warm smile, her kind way of talking and most of all, the clarity with which she answered my questions.
She was also able to suggest how to treat my internal organs with different types of food. Also, she follows a strict macrobiotic regime, so although I would never endeavour to do that, it inspires me to think that she has a holistic approach to life.
Shiatsu feels like a mix of traditional massage, physiotherapy and acupressure - hence the mix of eastern and western practises. It ...

I came across this website while I was searching the web for information about Holistic Therapies.
I had visited a site called 'Holistic Pages' and there included in the list of links was 'The Healing Pool'
the actual URL for The Healing Pool is www.thehealingpool.org and this takes you to an opening page full of information and links to various holistic therapies and associated information.
I was drawn to the name of this site because The Healing Pool is mentioned in the Bible and I guess that is where the site owners got the name from.
The first page of this site has several banner advertisements for other sites, such as Paul McKenna, Likisma Aromatherapy Products, Holistic Pages, Google Adsense, New World Music, and Amazon.
There are links to other pages on the site offering information on Reflexology ...
