Advantages: Packed with features, very customizable, source control integration Disadvantages: Sluggish on slower machines, overwhelming for the novice, does crash now and then
...a web site developer and Homesite is my editor of choice. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who has to regularly work on web sites but for those who just have perhaps a small web site of their own to look after I feel it may be something of a sledgehammer to crack a walnut. I would refer such people to Arachnophilia or to my personal favourite text editor, Editplus (http://www.editplus.com/). Homesite is so crammed with features that it's ... ...code your pages by hand. Homesite makes this easier by including a thorough HTML reference and also with some nifty tricks like tag insights and auto-completion which, though sometimes a nuisance to experienced coders (both features can be turned off however), are very useful to novice HTML coders.
Table and frame wizards take the work out of these complex structures and an image-map editor is built into the program. Other useful tools include an ...

Advantages: Logical,Simple,Functional,Powerful Disadvantages: Not visual
...those who've not used it, Homesite is webpage editor. It dispenses with the WYSIWYG displays of the likes of Dreamweaver to give the user as much help as is reasonably possible to write webpages by hand.
I have come to rely on Homesite quite a bit - I've been using it since version 2, and just like the various functions it gives you.
The screen layout is dominated by the editor window, which has syntax highlighting and tabbed pages (instead of ... ...stuff!
The toolbars in Homesite are there to make writing HTML easier - there are buttons to do everything from making a frameset, to tables, to fonts and styles, right through to linking databases. The help button pulls an HTML help index up with probably the best written help I've ever seen in an internet editor. For those who want to create Style Sheets, an extra application comes with Homesite to easily knock styles together.
Along with all ...

Advantages: The best HTML editor (as opposed to web site editor) on the market. Disadvantages: Not worth upgrading if you've got 4.0.
...can't say a lot about HomeSite 4.5, as i've only used the trial. I bought 4.0 and love it. I had the chance to upgrade very cheaply to 4.5, so i gave it a try.
The extra features seemed to be few and far between, and there were one or two things i didn't like as much, so I decided to stick with version 4.0. If you're buying new, then HomeSite 4.5 is probably a LOT better than any other editor on the market, but if you're a 4.0 user considering an ...

Advantages: Ease of use and excellent interface! Disadvantages: None noted
...So here it is: Allaire HomeSite 4.5! I was using HomeSite since version 3.0 and I prefer it to all other web-editors, and I've tried a bunch of them. HomeSite has always been very comfortable, it gives you access to all of your files (local and remote), supports scripting languages, both client-side and server-side, Java applets, and so on. It also has excellent wizards to work with tables, frames and scripts. I have appreciated its vast possibilities ...
