I wanted an upconverting Panasonic DVD to go with my Panasonic 32lxd700 LCD, as I didn't want to pay the premium for a Blu-ray player that at present don't look, in my opinion, that much better than standard DVD's. Advantages: Amazing sound experience
Disadvantages: A bit confusing when setting up.

We bought a really good 52\" LCD TV, but the sound was average and so decided to buy this system to improve it. Once installed, the difference is amazing! There are 2 front speakers, 2 rear speakers, 1 centre speaker and a subwoofer. ...not be compatible with the Panasonic SC-HT990 so you will need to run the sound through your TV which sort of defeats the object of the surround sound. Granted you can play the sound through the Aux attachments on the rear of the player but that does not do much for quality as it splits your stereo channel to produce surround sound.
