My experience with Home Solicitors has been very frustrating and stressful. I completed two months ago and I'm still trying to resolve the inconsistencies and discrepancies in the terms and conditions and my final bill.
I am a young, first time buyer and felt I could only go with my gut instinct. I won't be using their services again. Home Solicitors were charming and helpful to begin with. Once I paid my deposit, things changed - I found it difficult if not impossible to get in touch with anyone that could help. The internet case tracking didn't work and my solicitor failed to keep me up to date despite making countless empty promises to do so.
I had heard horror stories from friends about how solicitors quote one fee, then charge you much more in the end so I made every effort to gain the facts so that I was prepared. I was given every assurance that the 'fixed' quote was correct and that I would be notified in advance if anything out of their control would cost more. However, when it came to it, they did not live up to their assurances. I was charged well over what was quoted without any advance warning. When I pointed out that they had breached their own terms and conditions, I was offered nothing more than an insincere apology.
Ultimately, I have paid less than a friend who recently purchased and used a different solicitor. However, in future, I would prefer to pay more to receive a better, more professional, more honest service. If you are more money orientated and are prepared to put up with poor service, delays & unwelcome surprises to get a better price then these are your guys.
