I am 20 years old and a mother to two children, I was searching for something to do with my spare time and came across home-start. Now for those of you who know nothing about home-start it is a be-friending type service for families going through difficulties and who have a child under 5. They help a wide range of people from those with Post Natal Depression to multiple births. Families can refer themselves or be reffered by a proffesional such as ... ...assessed by an organiser then a suitable volunteer is selected. the role of the volunteer is to spend maybe 2 hours each week going to visit the family and maybe helping mum take the children to the doctors or just to be there for a friendly chat, it really is very varied and i couldn't possibly say exactly what you would have to do as that depends on each families needs.
