and its even better than I remember it!

We had to wait an entire year for it to return to our screens because Channel 5 won the rights to it over ITV! Was it worth the wait? Well I think so, yes.

Just in case anyone doesn't know what Home and Away is I will explain, its an Australian soap set in the beautiful town of Summer bay which has the most gorgeous beach you have ever seen. It is quite a small town and of course being a soap everyone knows everyone else's business.

The show started on ITV back in the late 1980's and the first scenes were of Pippa and Tom Fletcher turning up at the Caravan Park with their whole tribe of foster children, who included Carly, Frank, Steven, Lynne and Sally.

Since the beginning Pippa has had 3 husbands and now doesn't live in Summer bay anymore and the only foster child who does is Sally, Pippa has also had a variety of different foster children too all of which have been involved in great story lines! Most of them have grown up and moved away either getting married or joining the Navy like Jack did.

I couldn't wait to see Sally get married and see all the old faces who were in the show when it first started all those years ago.

Last week saw the final preparations for Sally's wedding and especially for the wedding we see Martin Dibble turn up and not too far behind him is Lance Smart, Pippa, Floss Carly and Jack all of whom were at sometime close to Sally. Then on the actual day of the wedding we see Steven and Frank, Sally's foster brothers waiting for her at the church to give her away.

This is such a happy day for everyone involved including the fans who have seen Sally (and the actress) grow up from a funny little girl, sometimes very annoying, with an imaginary friend called Milko, to a beautiful, self assured young woman who has found the man of her dreams, but has she?

That's where the happy day ends because Gypsy Nash stands up in front of everyone in the church and finally tells Sally and everyone what Kieran has been up to since moving to Summer Bay. You see he isn't the nice guy that Sally knows and loves but in fact he has been trying to hit on Gypsy ever since he first laid eyes on her. Two of the other people in the church also stand up and confirm what Gypsy is saying is true so Sally has to believe it and then runs out of the church in floods of tears.

Later on you see Steven and Frank turn up to where Kieran is sitting on the beach to let him know exactly what they think of him! Steven is a black belt in Karate you see.

Anyway I think that Sally had a lucky escape and that is what everyone is trying to tell her.

When it was time for Pippa to leave the bay again we saw her take one last look around her old house, as the previous owner, Joel, had let her and the rest of her family stay there as a favour. It brought tears to my eyes to see Pippa leave again and you could here the voice of Tom, Pippa's first husband as she remembered the many good times!

Now we have a new family at the caravan park, called the Sutherlands, not quite sure of them at present but I am sure they will cause a stir!

Like any good soap Home and Away certainly entertains and hopefully it can only get better.

Its on Channel 5 at 6pm Monday to Friday, and then repeated the next day at 12.30pm also there is an omnibus on Saturdays at 12.10pm.

The other characters in it at the moment are Shauna Bradley who has just found out she is the daughter of Ailsa Stewart. Alf Stewart who is Ailsa's husband and Duncan their son. Donald Fisher ex-headmaster of the local high school, Vinnie Patterson who is seeing Leah Poulos, the greek chef at the diner, owned by the Stewarts. Irene Roberts who is engaged to Ken Smith and lives with him and his kids who are Hayley, Will and Nick.

Also the new Head teacher is Judith Ackroyd and her son is called Edward Dunglass, he is suffering with a life threatening disease and has recently married Peta Janossi in their own special little ceremony. This was actually one of the last things we saw on ITV!!

I would really recommend this soap to anyone who likes sun, surf and beautiful beaches full of half naked people!

Watch it you don't know what you are missing!

Excellent write up and yes Home & Away is probably better than it was.

Thanks for the update. We don't get channel 5 either. I had heard Home and Away was coming back and I wondered why I hadn't seen it on ITV.

I used to watch this a few years ago (ok about 6 or 7 years ago!). I didn't realise Channel 5 will be showing it - although in deepest darkest Suffolk we still don't get Channel 5 (I'll have to catch up with it in about 10 years time when we finally come into the modern world!!!). Good op!
