Having recently moved to a small market town I needed to redecorate and decided to try a more expensive brand of paint than I would normally use.
What a revelation! I chose Farrow & Ball Estate Emulsion in Hound Lemon for the lounge and I am absolutely delighted with the results. This paint is very high quality, almost odourless and gives excellent coverage. If you are painting onto neutral walls you can get away with just one coat, but for a better finish I would recommend 2 coats. I mainly used a roller, taking a brush to certain restricted areas and the application was equally successful with both.
Farrow & Ball use traditional formulas to produce beautiful muted colours. They incorporate much more pigment than other mainstream paint manufacturers, which results in a real depth of colour. Their paints have a matt, chalky appearance which work equally well in period or modern environments. The colour palette is extensive and sample pots are available at £3. I paid £23.99 for 2.5 litres of Estate Emulsion - expensive when compared to the mainstream brands, but the results are exceptional and well worth the extra. I have painted some of the house in different, slightly less expensive paints and I really wish I could afford to do my whole house in F&B. I ... ...definitely worth the money and the paint goes a long way. My room has gone from a long and slightly dark room to a large, spacious light and airy lounge. The difference with other main brand paints is the depth of colour. At different times of the day the colour in the room changes slightly, it gives the room character and makes it look absolutely fabulous. ...
