Among the plethora of magazines which can show you wonderful homes there are few that seem to have their feet placed on the firm wood flooring they all seem to recommend. All too often the rooms have been transformed not so much by good ideas as by good money. Frankly if we all had that much money all our houses would look that good. Well, probably no.
There are other ingredients needed to improve your home. Time is one obviously but there is little that can be done about the number of hours in a day. You do also need a few good ideas, a bit of know-how and a degree of confidence. Magazines which show schemes and plans way beyond our budget may make good reading but probably do little for your house or for that matter for you.
Homes & Ideas is better than the others because it shows simple achievable little jobs which can improve the look and functionality of your home. It also ensures the tasks can be done without a woodworking or sewing GCSE and without the need for a budget of 100s of £s.
There are real homes shown with the emphasis on real and on home. I know they will have been tidied up and presented at their best but they do look like someone lives there. The homes in some similar magazines look like they exist only in 2 dimensions. The emphasis in much of the magazine is on transforming and improving. It tells you that the basic things you have are good but if they are looking a bit tired don’t throw them out give them a fresh look.
The magazine does also have articles on gardening and even on food and again the approach is sensible and simple. There are a few competitions and a few reader offers and a page where queries are answered.
Homes and Ideas is a well thought out magazine obviously written with enthusiasm and knowledge. It is not excessively prissy but not like a leaden diy magazine either. It strikes a good balance and has enough in each issue to easily save the £2.10 cost.

...a total revamp”. Homes & Ideas is one of the magazines that help you to transform the old to the modern or vice- versa, adding more style to your home. I bought the latest Home & Ideas (March 2001) for £1 pound, but normally the usual price is £2 pounds and for the level of the information that you can have, the price is nearly nothing. Reading the magazine is very pleasant and when they suggest something that needs your DIY expertise, all ... ...etc…)

Advantages: Ideas to fit a realistic budget Disadvantages: only out monthly
I am buying my first house shortly... and so as such my nesting instinct kicked in and I began researching and of all the magazines out there I found home ideas by far the best for the young person of today looking to furnish or re-decorate. Lets face it we aren't all on £30 or £40 thousand a year... and most house magazines seem to be apealing to this bracket. This magazine does stand out from others on the market. For a start it is cheaper, on ... ...(I pick mine up from the corner shop) this magazine consists of many ideas to fit anybodys budget.
In any magazine there are usually articles and ideas for every room Kitchen, Living room, Bedroom, and Outdoors. It has articles on every room and the best thing is that every product or design idea has the price and usually a website attached so that you can be sure to obtain the product yourself.

...often find sumptuous or staid homes featured. Everything is light and bright. The cover states "265 beautiful budget ideas for Summer living" this time. The emphasis is on ideas, hence Homes and Ideas What is great about this magazine, is that they give you loads of ideas for your own house. Many of the pages are short features of makeovers, cookery, new products etc. All illustrated with numerous photographs. I think this is what makes this magazine ... ...photos (ideas) on for you. The visuals seem more important than the text. Which works! It makes the magazine very 'light' - an enjoyable read. You usually get a free booklet in the centre pages - the one I am looking at now has a 70 Garden Ideas booklet whoich is tops for me - I'm just about to move house and need ideas for a neglected and overgrown garden. I would definitely recomend this title. It's greeeeaaaat! ...
This magazine is full of superb ideas for around your home that you can purchase or recreate yourself. It covers just about everything you want to know about home decorating and designing. There are pages of readers makeovers showing you the before and after products. It shows you how to plan your own room to perfection. After buying a copy in December last year, I decided to take my home decor into my own hands, and have so far successfully redecorated ...

...any advice, and that's why Homes & Ideas, that's what Homes & Ideas does.
It is the visual idea that counts, we are talking about painting, redecorating, making a small place look big, yes they sell visual ideas, and sometimes is not what you had in mind but changing here and there will be perfect, isn't it? I would say that they have a good visual appeal, and yes it worth to buy, because helps you to redesign your house. ...

Advantages: good articles & realistic prices Disadvantages: some ideas are naff
I?ve bought this magazine regularly for some time. It is a more practical home decorating magazine and is also more relevant to most people?s lives and budgets than some. There is a mix of short articles and longer features. Each month they feature some readers? homes showing their decorating ideas. At the end of the article they show where you can buy and make similar items. Particular trends and rooms are also featured and there are ways to makeover old furniture. I like the way that there are similar items shown in cheap, mid and high price ranges. The guides to buying particular articles such as beds are useful and show you what you need to consider when shopping. A buy/sell/swap area lets readers get rid of or find items. There is quite a lot of information and it is very useful for people who are new to diy and decorating. Most ...

Advantages: good ideas & good clear instructions Disadvantages: having the time to do any
I like making things and this magazine combines home decorating ideas and craft ideas quite well. It features articles on readers? homes, decorating ideas, gardening and other stuff found in most home magazines. However, it also give really good, clear instructions as to how you can make and recreate these ideas. The items you will need are listed and it shows you where you can buy them and their cost. It shows you how to make stuff that is actually useful in decorating your home, not things that will end up in a cupboard somewhere. Often there is a free gift associated with some of the articles and they have special readers? offers. ...

Advantages: glossy, colourful Disadvantages: Occasionally use old material from other magazines
homes - stain marks, holes in rugs etc.
So if looking at the pictures makes you depressed this device is a must.
The magazine does not contain pages and pages of advertisements so you get value for money. Each room or home gives one ideas for improvements in their own home and a good tip is to keep hold of the magazines for ideas for future decorating tips or colour schemes.
I genuinely don't have any criticisms of this magazine. My only suggestion to the editors would be to have a second-hand or for sale and wanted feature, perhaps using photographs of people's objects for sale if possible.
For value for money and enjoyable reading it is a must. ...
