At that time my car had covered around 20,000 miles and had suffered unduly from many various problems which had undoubtedly tainted my opinion of it. I have now totally ... Read review

OUR FLEXIBLE FRIEND?

Advantages: Refined engine, excellent ride and handling, superb seats and driving position
Disadvantages: Interior trim rattles, dissapointing fuel consumption.

...my own car - the Honda accord I-CTD-i (Diesel) EX saloon. At that time my car had covered around 20,000 miles and had suffered unduly from many various problems which had undoubtedly tainted my opinion of it.

I have now totally updated that early review in the light of far more "normal" and 100% reliable experience with this car.

WHAT IS IT?

The current Saloon is the latest in a long line of ...
...Nissan Primera.

Honda would however, rather have you think that it is a "Junior Executive" car, in the mould of the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Jaguar X-Type.

WHICH SPECIFIC MODEL?

The car reviewed here, is the i-CTDi Executive Saloon. The Accord range has recently (January 2006) undergone a minor face lift, I am reviewing the very first Honda diesel model here, launched in January 2004.

Honda Accord 2.2 i-ctdi executive

Advantages: All the gadgets a modern car needs
Disadvantages: Cheap looking fake wood effect interior

...new car is a 2005 Honda Accord 2.2 i-CTDi Executive and I bought it mostly because of how comfortable and feature rich it was during the test drive but also because of the excellent review written by RichadA who I think should receive at least a small amount of commission :). He certainly gets my thanks for nudging me in the direction of the Accord because I was initially thinking of getting a VW Passat or a Toyota Prius. I bought my 18 month old ...
...is a storage area and Honda have thoughtfully included a 12v power socket which I use to charge my laptop and phone when on the move. A coin-box/sunglasses holder is also provided along with a cup holder that can hold two cups. There are another couple of cup holders provided for the rear passengers in the middle of the rear seats. It comes with electric windows all round and these can be controlled by the driver using the buttons on the armrest ...

Hondas first Diesel -Accord CDTi

Advantages: quiet, roomy, comfortable, reliable, stylish and sturdy, reasonable running costs and a beautiful car to drive
Disadvantages: need to switch engine on to move the seats, only one reverse light (I prefer two stylistically)

I purchased my Honda Diesel in April of this year (2004) so have owned one for approximately 6 months. The car I bought was an ex demonstrator with about 3000 miles on the clock (nearly new rather than brand spanking new). There really is so much to say about this car. The big thing that I noticed very early on is its quiet, Honda have done away with the annoying piston slap that makes diesels so noisy, so the engine is exceedingly quiet, quieter ...
...and it is the first Honda diesel so I would hope this will not change given Hondas reliability in other areas, but it is something I will continue to update with servicing reports. The car handles superbly and is quite light on the steering, for a large car its wonderful to park and reversing is a pleasure. The acceleration is wonderful and you really can feel the power of the diesel engine. All in all it’s a very positive responsive experience. ...

Advantages: Brilliant quiet engine, Ride and handling,
Disadvantages: High repair costs, disappointing supplemental equipment, boot space.

...on cold mornings. With the Honda - what a faff ! I switch the control to front screen, then adjust temp to Hi , then switch heated window on- then another switch for the heated mirrors. then when all clear have to switch everything off again and adjust heat to 22'C (my normal setting) THAT is not AUTOMATIC climate contriol. Saab you DONT need to touch ever!! Equipment - Very well equiped - Sat Nav is brilliant. Automatic wipers with a sensitivity ...
...a lorry for instance. The Honda - you need to intervene with the Auto setting about 10/% of the time. My other gripe is the cruise control - very and I mean VERY slow to respond! Especially when going to resume. Quicker to use the accelerator, then press resume. The Saab cruise is verocious when resuming back to your preset speed. Maybe I've been spoilt with Saab's! Space - loads for the passengers - though rear head room is limited - the boot is ...

15,000 miles in an Accord 2.2 CTDI Executive

Advantages: Very Quiet, spacious, comfortable, good handling, economical
Disadvantages: Lacks charisma and prestige (but who cares?) built in radio

...and reliability. The Honda Accord delivers all of these. First it's reasonably fast with a virtually no power band as such. It has plenty of torque spread throughout the rev range. It's not the 0-60 thats quick it's the 30-50 and 50-70 times. This makes for easy overtaking. I had a VW Passat 130bhp diesel before this and that had a very distinct powerband. I also pull a one and a quarter ton caravan with this car. It'll romp up hills at 60mph in ...
...(which unlike some diesels the Honda will let you do) you see the consumption drop to the low 40's. It handles very nicely too, if you want to push it through the bends you'll be rewarded with a neutral feel, no under or oversteer present. It's very comfortable. The Climate Control is superb. The radio is a custom fit job which although a good quality Pioneer, it's distinctive shape prevents me fitting a more favoured DAB unit (when will car manufactureres ...

Honda Get It Slightly better.

Advantages: Great Executive car, a step up from the last accord.
Disadvantages: still a little dull and lacks the edge.

The new Accord is and interesting car to look at. It actually makes me think of a story that I read in a recent copy of CAR magazine, which was about motor-gaffs. In the article was a story about the Lotus Elan, a car that I am quite fond of but never had the pleasure of driving. It turns out that the Elan is not the car it was suppose to be, due to a number of miscommunications / misunderstandings or general botches. The Elan actually has a shorter ...
...was designed. The car in other words is to big for its legs - and this is the feeling I have with the Accord the body seems to be too big with the rest of the car. I sort of like the car, but somethings feels wrong. On the flip side I followed the existing Accord down a road and couldn't help thinking how bland the car looked. So at least the new Accord makes a statement. Compared to the Type S the i-CTDi has the standard body kit and looks toned ...

Review of Honda Accord 2.2i CTDi

A real little gem

Advantages: Internal quality and toys like no other car in this price range
Disadvantages: need to load the car phonebook manually

I bought one of these at the end of April this year and the past 7 months driving have been a pleasure.... and i have done 17,000miles! At the beginning of the year i changed jobs and needed to buy myself a new car. I looked at all the usual options: Saabs, BMW's, Volvos, Mercs etc and never even gave the Honda Accord a look in! That was until i started adding all the extras i wanted into the purchase price of the car - I wanted sat nav, leather, cruise control - because i spend a lot of time in the car i wanted it to be done in comfort. The prices were coming in close to 28K which was way out of my budget. I drove past a Honda garage and decided to just ' stick my head in'. I then saw this car in the middle of the showroom and i was blown away! Having done the usual test drive etc i ordered one the following day. 7 weeks later ...

Review of Honda Accord 2.2i CTDi

Honda Accord provides epic performance

Advantages: Big reliable and responsive
Disadvantages: Tight on the extras

As a company car owner I have played the field a bit with cars and have often been disappointed with Marques once I have driven them. Fords rattle, Rovers fall apart, and Mercedes were cramped and not good for a growing family. So I moved to Honda after Top Gear mentions on their reliability and for the first time I will be returning to the same car for my next one. I love this car! Firstly, I am always doing projects around the house, and by flipping the back seats down, I can get wardrobes, fridges and timber into this car where others would fail. I have also got in all my camping equipment without a top box, where the Merc needed every inch filled plus the largest top box I could buy. The boot is like a black hole it just takes in everything! The ride itself is comfort personified and the seats give support and a feeling ...
