Bought my 1997 carb model in 2000 with about 5000 miles on the clock. Change oil and filter every 4k, changed plugs at 20k but they are still in and I'm not having any problems ( should'nt really as they have platinum tips) Went through a lot of brake pads untill I did a couple of seasons with IAM. (worth doing) Have had more sets of tyres than I can remember, Started with BT57's when bought , tried another set , then tried Bridgestone 020's got decent mileage out of these, tried Avon Azaro's 4k killed the back tyre front lasted a bit longer. (got them cheap) Tried another set of 020's not bad then a set of Dunlop D207's not bad, D208's did'nt last long. Back to 207s , back tyre doest square off as much as the 020. Pricing another set uo now, looks like Avon ST's are the cheapest at 167quid. Only problems I've had, cam chain tensioner needed replacing, and the rectifier needed replacing total cost about 100 notes, if you are buying an old bike check if these have been replaced. I'm on my 4th chain and sprocket set, and have changed the gearbox sprocket in between main changes (it is the little one and gets all the wear) Have travelled europe, been to St Tropez, and a lot of the west cost resorts of France and going again this year. Two up, Givi luggage and a tankbag this machine will cruise at any speed you dare to go. (went from Calais to Dijon in 4.5 hours) Still get about 45mpg from this bike even when running high revs and low gears.
