I have owned a 2002 honda cg 125 for over a year now and allthough im bored of it and cant wait to get a bigger bike I still think it is one incredible bike.
Like I said ive owned this bike for over a year now and allthough it doesnt look as good as it did when I first got it (now has rust in some areas and a few scratches and dents here and there) it still runs perfectly sound and with no major problems.
The Honda CG has a single cylinder 4 stroke engine with an output of about 11bhp, 5800rpm, allowing the bike to reach about 60mph +.
The bike has a 5 speed gear box which if well maintained will run smoothly for a life time. The tank only costs about £10 to fill and this lasts me about 2 weeks (on average about 200 miles) so the cost of running the bike is very cheap. The insurance for this bike is low, as it is in a low category costing me about £270 a year (i pay it off monthly costing me £22) for third party fire and theft. road tax for this bike is £15 a year so if your student (like me) or just want something cheap to get you from A-B then this bike is perfect for you.
Of course crime is a big problem and allthough I tried everything to protect my bike the thiefs still managed to get away with it and of course I thought id never see my precious machine again and if I did it would be trashed. Amazingly the police managed to find it and returned it to me, and after cleaning the mud off I found that the damage was very little, A few scratches, a broken light and a broken ignition costing me about £40 to repair which I thought was brilliant, So this prooves just how tough the Honda CG really is.
I use this bike mainly to get to work, college and to my mates and allways envolves me going through a busy town area which is one reason why I bought this bike. Because the bike is small and light wieght it makes it very easy to nip in and out of the busy town traffic allowing you to get to the front of the cues. The bike is also pretty nippy of the mark so pulling away at junctions is quick, easy and smooth allowing you to get to your destination very quickly
The overall handling of the bike is average, The bike sticks to the road so if you need to lean it over at all then this is simple to do. But the suspension is a bit bouncy meaning you tend to bounce around alot which affects your steering slightly which can be a bit scary when going round corners at high speeds.
My particular model has an electric starter as well as a kick starter which makes it very easy to start up. The older models only have a kick start which makes it very difficult to start on very cold days.
So youve heard all the good points of the bike but of course there are allways some bad points. One problem with the bike is it looks, Completely boring, a small ammount of style has been attempted but failed missarebly. The instruments are just plain with a speedometer and a couple of lights (indicator, neutral and high beam) and a few side panels other than it's plain and boring. I managed to find a custom front panel with a light built in which I managed to fit on so this has slightly improved the looks.
So most people think a 125cc motorbike will go pretty fast, Well with honda CG 125 they couldnt be any further away from the truth. This Bike is incredibly slow reaching top speeds of about 60mph (flat out) but I fear that this will blow the engine soon so I have to keep it to about 50mph max. When the wind blows strong the bike doesnt actually slow down that much (about 5mph) but of course this is because i keep the bike at about 50mph and so I could go faster and can adjust for wind.
The last little problem I have with the bike are the breaks. My particular model has drum brakes front and rear and so doesnt have as good breaking power as the newer model which have a front disck brake.
Overall a great bike, perfect for people who need to commute from A-B quickly and without having to spend loads of money and easy to maintain. Is a little ugly but who cares when your saving this much money
So youve read my personal review on what the Honda CG 125 is like and i hope you now have a better idea of what it is like to own one.
