...The Honda CR-V is not a car your would buy for thrilling driving, it is not a car you would buy for break neck speed, it is not a car you would buy for razor sharp handling. However if you wish to get from A to B with plenty of space in the boot and plenty of leg room in the back seats then this is the car for you. The boot has the dimensions you would expect for a 4x4 car offering you room not only width ways but also length ways very useful for plenty of luggage for that long road trip or excessive bags of golf clubs for a long game of golf. The engine is very reliable with Honda able to boast an incredible record of not one of it's 250,000 Vtec engines having broken down making them THE most reliable 4x4 on the market. ...You may have read about my useless car which I wrote about some time ago. Well a few months ago I finally got rid of my MGTF and bought myself a decent car instead. I use the word 'decent' to describe the build quality of my new car and not as a comparison in design, handling, and features etc. I realise that a direct comparison is impossible as the 2 cars are completely different both in terms of the type of person they are aimed at and the uses to which they would be put to. My new car is a 2005 Honda Accord 2.2 i-CTDi Executive and I bought it mostly because of how comfortable and feature rich it was during the test drive but also because of the excellent review written by RichadA who I think should receive at least a small amount of commission :). ...and a half years and 95,000 miles of motoring would tell me that this is not going to be a cheap car to run. Indeed my car has cost considerably more in both servicing and consumable parts than my previous V6 petrol engine Vauxhall Omega. In bald cost terms the clever statisticians at What Car magazine tell us that a comparable BMW 320d SE will cost you 50.7 pence per mile, a Mondeo 2.0 TDi Titanium X 55.7 p, whilst this new Honda is going to cost you a whopping 65 pence for each mile you travel in it. The new Accord i-DTEC EX falls into a very reasonable group 11 (of 20) Insurance. The 148g/kg CO2 figure is a retrograde step on the earlier cars' 143. Relative to other similar cars on sale though, any figure below 150 has to be regarded as good - only BMW's remarkable 2.0 diesel at 128 improves to any substantial degree on this score...
