This is Honda’s answer to the rather better known Toyota Prius, i.e an ultra low emissions vehicle, in this case dependant on a combination of small (1.3 litre) petrol engine and a battery powered electric motor. The badge on the back reads “HYBRID”, ... Read review

RICHADA STICKING TWO FINGERS UP AT MR LIVINGSTONE?

Advantages: Free Passage Into London. Interesting Technology. A "Proper" Car.
Disadvantages: Terribly Thirsty in Town. Half Hearted Exterior Styling.

...of building the Civic saloon, Honda keeps it very simple indeed. The Hybrid comes in just one version: the very well equipped ES, with a 1.3 petrol engine coupled to an automatic CVT (constantly variable) transmission. You have a choice of body colour and the option of leather upholstery and that is it.

I found myself immediately wondering why Honda had not offered this intriguing and tax busting power combination in the hatchback ...
...so close dimensionally to the Honda Accord.

The saloon body style is also now, ironically, available in the UK as a Type R (“Racing”) version – dropping the 1.3 litre petrol engine and battery powered motor - replacing them with a 200bhp 2 litre petrol engine, thus creating an animal of a totally different breed. Stylistically somehow, the Civic Saloon shape far more suits the Hybrid badge than it does the sporty Type R one.

Half electric, half petrol - and it works!!!

Advantages: Low running costs, reliable, green
Disadvantages: Not for boy racers!

...to drive one! No really! Honda Civic IMA comes in only manual transmission and you drive it like any other manual car. The only hint that this car is different from others is in the dials on the dash which tell you when the battery is assisting or being recharged and the battery levels. I bought it last year and it has been such a boon for me so far! I am able to do at least 450 miles on a full tank (about 11 gallons) and I pay less road tax (£75/year) ...
...£1000 if in Scotland! Honda have also loaded this car with some very good kit too- all leather interior, heated front seats, fog lights both front and back, all around power windows, CD player, Air con with pollen filter, Remote central locking, Driver and passenger and side air bags and all the other standard stuff that you get when you buy a car. Honda claim in their brochures that this car does 65 mpg but what you really get is between 45-50 ...

Civic IMA

Advantages: Economical, reliable, feels like a high end car
Disadvantages: No good for petrol heads!

...long distances. Being a honda I don't anticipate and reliability problems - certainly I haven't had any yet touch wood. You might think that being so economical to run it might feel cheap. In fact it has quality all over it. I'd highly recommend the IMA. Its spacious, a good drive and economical to run. ...

good hybrid

Advantages: great gas mileage
Disadvantages: little sluggish

I owned this car for about a year. The reason i bought this car was because i was taking long 12 hour trips about once a month. It saved me a lot of money on gas during that time span. I liked most things about it. It could have used a little more get up and go for my taste. I loved the fact that i could drive around town and get awesome gas mileage. It also took very little to completely fill the engine with fuel. The ease of driving and the feel ...
...a lot of leg room in the back seat. The back floor board is completely flat all the way across so that made it nice for my daughter to climb in and across to her seat. All in all i was very happy with this car and i do not have any complaints except for t he fact that it was a little sluggish on the get go. However it did make up for that in gas mileage. For the money i do not believe that i could have found a better deal. ...

The New Honda Civic IMA ES (Hybrid)

Advantages: Cheap running costs, fully automatic, cheapest road tax
Disadvantages: Length of time it takes to get one once it has been ordered

The new Honda Civic IMA Hybrid ES car now comes with a fully automatic transimission system, which helps to keep your running costs low by making you drive more sensibly. They have greatly improved the engine and its transmission system making this the best hybrid from Honda so far. Road tax has also been axed by the Government and now only costs £15 per year! This car is a solid and good family car, the only real optional extra is upgrading to leather ...
