I ended up buying the car without actually really wanting it (due to my Scooby infatuation). The only thing to look out for other than the standard checks on a performance car is the Recaro seat bolsters collapsing which is an expensive repair. However, if the bolsters have not collapsed but simply become shiny, it can be made to look like new with certain brands of suade cleaner.

I was in the market for a Subaru Impreza turbo a couple of years ago but checking out insurance, I found that no-one would cover me due to being under 25. Keen to get myself a high performance car I started to look at what other options were available.
Having done several thousand miles in my fathers modified Scooby, I knew what level of performance I expected/wanted.

A year after owning it I thought about changing it (for change's sake) but couldn't find anything that was as much fun. Admittedly there are faster cars in a straight line but where's the fun in driving in a straight line?!! Cross country, the cars light weight and subsequent lack of momentum, together with its fabulous suspension and body control make it awesome.
Being a Honda, not much will go wrong - in two years, I have not had to replace anything over and above the standard servicing schedule. In saying that, I do get services done early and plugs/fluids changed regularly - not because it needs it but because I believe that it can only do the car good (and I'm a total car nut).
Nearly all ITRs are owned by total enthusiasts (when you buy one, make sure you wave at other ITR drivers!!) - they are likely to have been driven as Honda intended but equally likely to have been looked after.

There are a number of these cars about with 80-90k miles which are still very reliable.
I have had a few cars pull away from me in impromptu traffic light drags, but have yet to come across a car on a country road that I couldn't embarrass (including a memorable 30 miles with a 22B Scooby).
One of the key factors in my admiration for the ITR is that the full potential of the engine can be used (up to a point!) without breaking the law.
Whilst I'm not one for cruising around city centres on a Saturday night, I do appreciate the fact that you can go for a number of days at a time without seeing another ITR.
Running costs are low, but you do get stung by insurance - Group 18 is never cheap!
The car is very highly tuned - Honda would claim that it shouldn't be modified, however, it is common knowledge that the manifold and exhaust system is very restrictive which are worthwhile replacing. Beyond this, there are few cheap worthwhile modifications.
I have given up trying to find a car to replace my ITR and have decided to buy a (Honda!) motorbike to complement it - enough said!

The car is light weight and the cabin is a noisy place to be, but i cannot explain just how nice a noise it is. An alternative to this all out racer is possibly the DC5 as it is a slightly less bare nuckle ride, or possibly the Civic type R although the novelty of being an integra driver is big. So big that my brother has come home with a big grin ... ...not practical enough for me to want to drive it everyday, although if owned one i honestly dont think i would care as it is so much fun and so special. All in all this car is a credit to honda and just shows why they connote reliablity and quality. ...

Advantages: Race Spec, addictive, so reliable, well looked after cars Disadvantages: hard to get hold of. only enthusiasts may apply. can be expensive when go wrong
...an integra type R from Honda and it just seemed the car for me and having herd that it is a substitute for a Scooby, it had to be ideal. I spent a good 3-4 months looking for 1 as the car is so rare and quite expensive as there are only something like 1500 UK spec integras made for the UK and are so reliable and keep there value, as soon as 1 is for sale, u can garuantee a que of people are after it!!! So get there fast.
Finally I got 1, from a ... ...must have some kind of Honda approved alarm to insure and after all it is a highly popular joy riders car.
This is a brief review on the ITR and will probably make a 2nd review soon.

Ciao members have rated this car review on average: helpful Review of Honda Integra Type R
The new Honda Civic Type R has become a common sight on British roads. However, it is the Civic's sister, the Integra Type R that has continued to steal the lime-light. Possibly the best handling FWD car the Integra combines coupe looks with lightning performance. Producing 187 bhp from a N/A 1.8 engine is some feat! But Honda have managed this with a clever Cam Switch at 6000 rpm and making much of the car as light weight as possible. This means ... ...the faint hearted!. Coming in at insurance group 18 it isnt the easiest car to insure but it is well worth the expense, a CAT 1 alarm helps reduce the impending premium and there is no doubt the stability of this car makes it one of the safest on the road with a 0-60 braking time of just 2.8 seconds. A one off Recaro interior and plenty of potential in poducing more horse power makes the ITR one of the most desired 'drivers' cars to date. Available ...

Advantages: Quick, sharp handling, uniqueness, fun fun fun Disadvantages: Raw and ready - not for those wanting the finer things in life
The integratype-r may not be the most attractive car on the road, but type-r drivers don't buy them for that. They buy them for one thing and one thing alone - this is a street legal 'go-kart' with 200bhp on tap. It has one of the most amazing handling set-ups I have ever come across and will give the likes of a Porsche 911 a run for its money on back-roads even though it will trade over 100bhp (and costs substantially less). This is a car that you drive for sheer pleasure (of the racing kind). It is a 'stripped out' racer with little sound proofing (to reduce the car weight) but boy will it bring a smile to your face. This car is made for those long summer evenings where you get in to it and drive in the country to banish those workday blues. Those who are looking for a confortable tourer will be disappointed (from the lack ...
Advantages: RARE AND RARE AND RARER STILL Disadvantages: space.
, why oh why do these dealers, try and pull fast one's. i mean if i'm going tospend my hard earned cash, and hard earned future cash( as i would have needed some finance), should i put up with nonsense.
so i left.
The thing about these lupo gti's is that they are quite a rare site on the road. (about as rare as a hondaintegratyper , if not more), hence i was delighted when i noticed 1 on the street, parked up, which was enroute to home, from work.
It was black and i always really liked it, and thought black's the colour for me.
Then 1 week. Me and the missus decided to go to devon for a week. I thought i had to pull the stop's out to find 1. As if i was meant to have 1, found 1 for sale, not so far away. Guess what colour it was???? Black! it also had 2 other brucie bonus's. Cd/cassette system, and more importantly for me ...
Advantages: FAST, POWERFUL, GREAT HANDLING, NICE LOOKS Disadvantages: SMALL, NO AIR CON, POOR BUILD QUALITY, SEATS ARE RUBBISH

Its great that a little clio can do that and it does have big respect within the motoring world. The pedigree with renault is there the Williams clio was a joy to drive and although probably better at handling this 172 cup is also great fun. If you can ignore the tacky interior and the poor seats and focus on the fact that this car wont let you down ever in the performance department (which lets face it is what really matters with a car for people who love to drive anyway ) then this car will be the one for you. Its great fun and its cheap and until i can afford the TVR its the best I can find for the money and beleive me I agonised over which car to buy. This was my preferance and despite it being merely a clio I don't overly regret it. Short of buying another second hand Scooby or Evo or maybe even a HondaIntegratypeR and risking it ...
