I am 48 and up until recently commuted by train to London Liverpool Street from where I cycled to Chelsea where I work, door to door about 2 hours if everything went right.Increasingly I found it was not going right and decided to give commuting by bike a go. I passed my bike test in 1991 but did not buy a bike at that time due to a back injury - not bike related. The Deauville is therefore my first bike and it took me less than 100 miles to get the hang of it, it really is a joy to ride and own. I do 65 miles (130/day) and love every mile of it! I wish I had done this years ago! it's a bit like skiing, you know theres a risk but for what you get out of it its worth it. My journey time is down to 1.5 hours. My bike is 1999 with 10,000 on the clock, I'm told its good for 80,000 easily, I paid under £2,000, I estimate £3,200 costs p.a based on £400 first year depreciation, petrol, tax and £600 maintenance.
