Great bike, little money and a whole lot of fun!

Thats the XR125L summed up in a few words, but let me go a little bit more indepth!

When I first bought mine, I went into a honda show room looking for a CBR125R but when I seen this beside it, I literally laughed at how small the CBR is in comparison to this bike - I read review sites for the CBR and no one listed the height of it, or maybe I ignored it because it looked okay in the pictures!

This little package of joy is a mean looking learner legal machine, guys on big bikes won't believe it's a 125 due to the height and road presence that comes with it.

I've had mine for almost 2 years and have not had a spot of bother even though I've put 10,000 miles on it from new, just a new set of tires and a bulb replacement, which is of minimal cost.

The tires on these machines are great, very grippy and allow for a good angle on the twisties, the suspension is great - you never feel a bump on the road and most of all the fuel economy is outstanding! I get over 100mpg on my little bike - this appeals to first timers and full time bikers who may use it for a bit of commuting, which it does perfectly! I've had several guys who own big bikes drive this for a while and they couldn't believe the comfort of this bike!

But through out this comes some bad points! And trust me, I'm using as fine tooth comb here as I find it hard to fault!

The engine has a very cheap laquer put on it, on most of these you may notice the engine turning a little greyer throughout use.

The bike doesn't have a great top end (65 - 70mph), however the accelleration is really good on it up to about 50mph.

There is no fuel gauge - not that big of a deal considering I only fill mine up once every fortnight with 5 quid of petrol, driving it each day for commuting a few miles and other odd runs.

But the worst one compared to all these is that there's no ash trays or cup holders and no room for a baby seat! Joking, I'm not that mad! But I hope this shows you how the points I listed aren't that bad!

Overall I'd give this bike a 8.5/10 - which is me being incredibly hard on it.

Review of Honda XR125L by mekon88

Advantages: Quiet, Economical, VERY Forgiving, will last forever cos its a honda!
Disadvantages: Low top end speed, not for those with short legs.

I bought an 06 XR125L5 to use both for commuting and for fun off-road. This is quite a physically big bike, assuming decent leg length average height male should be fine, however my friend is 6ft (2 inches taller than me) and cannot get both feet on the ground completely flat so if you have short legs this wont be the bike for you. On-Road Comfort - smooth ride, takes the local potholes in its stride plus if you are in right gear whisper quiet. ...
...Speed - from stand still to 40-50 very nippy, getting above 50 takes a while however that might just be my inexperience as I am new to biking. Off-Road Tyres- if you live in England and you want to use this bike off road I suggest different tyres, the stock tyres are pretty poor in mud, they are a bit too road biased. Handling - apart from issues with mud these bikes are brilliant off-road, even when that tree stump you didn't notice bucks you ... Read review

you have found your first motorcycle
Review of Honda XR125L by matto228

Advantages: cheap to buy, cheap to run, handles most terrain, good looks
Disadvantages: basic technology, rear drum break

I bought my honda xr 125 from a local dealer for £2400 this included 2 years warranty and 2 years breakdown cover. I believe that for the money its a great value bike and it has never let me down on reliability after 1000 miles. Thats 300 miles run in period and then 700 miles of giving it death and it just seems to love it. The ride itself is reasonably comfortable and the handling is ok as the bike is quite light. As for performance, ok its not ...
...4 stroke engine which is more reliable and much better sounding than its faster 2 stroke alternative. That said, its not as bad as most people told me, it can find a comfortable cruise at 50mph after taking no time to reach and you can squeeze 65mph out of a long straight. 5th gear does seem to offer no extra power though. I use this bike whenever weather permits and green laning on it is great fun, id have the ability of off road over a faster 125 ... Read review

Quick review of Honda XR125L
Review of Honda XR125L by mars-bar-man

Right, based on your review, how is someone meant to make an informed decision regarding the purchase of this bike? There are numerous spelling errors and gramatical errors, also a bit of common sense wouldn't go amiss. Let me direct you to a quote from you; "as i use to have a DT 125 on an 04 plate yeah it was fast but thay dont like clocking up miles mine blue up after 4000 miles dont buy a 2 strock buy a 4" That is probably the worlds worst constructed sentance I have ever come across. "blue up"? I mean come on!! Are you a compete blithering idiot? "strock"? I pretty sure that's not what it's meant to say... As for the bike? Pretty damn good.... ;)

Advantages: Ease of use, lightweight, fuel economy, slight cred.
Disadvantages: Slow, slow, slow, slow.

...problems. Also insurance is pennys and servicing is peanuts all the usual benefits of honda ownership apply (smartwater, 2yrs warranty, AA cover e.t.c). Go ahead and buy one if you live in a city or can't afford any more points on your licence because this sure couldn't earn you any! ... Read review
