Disadvantages:	Dodgy dealers (varies from place to place) .  There is only normally one franchised dealer in most towns outside London .  This means that the dealers get away with a lot !  !  !

I have been a Honda driver for many years and have found that the cars are on the whole very reliable. However, I have to say that I have never been too happy with the dealer network. One draw back is that most towns have only one approved Honda dealer that monopolises the area. This often means that they can get away with bad service as consumers in the local area have little choice. Especially if they want to maintain their warranty. You will be treated fairly well on your first few service visits when you buy a car from them (especially if it is a new car).

I recently had a "level 4" service done at DeVries Honda in Hull. This costs GBP 200. Not too cheap but it was the top level service that on paper seemed to check, replace, adjust, and clean a whole load of stuff. Part of the service should include replacing the spark plugs and air filter. Fairly straight forward tasks. On getting my car back home I popped the bonnet (to check something else). I found that the cover and its bolts over the engine were still dusty. This would need to have been removed in order to replace the spark plugs. Cob webs and dust were still evident around the spark plug connectors! This raised suspicions so I checked the air filter too. I opened up the air box cover and had a look at the filter element. It was covered in dirt and grease marks near the central part of the filter element. It was certainly not a new one! Now if they can't even be bothered to do simple tasks such as change the spark plugs and the filter element, I very much doubt they would have done the other things on the list. Basically, I paid GBP 200 for an oil change!!! Also, the service manager, was not the most pleasant chap I have come across. When you first meet him he will say all the right words and polite phrases but you always get the distinct feeling that he is not sincere in his words - he is only being polite because he has been told to for his job! If you are ever unfortunate enough to meet this guy you may know what I mean. It's people like him that give the motor trade a very bad name.

Tried to argue my case to the service manager but you will find that after you have paid your invoice he will often be with a customer or in a meeting or away. And nobody else will have the "authority" to deal with your case. You may even find that your phone call is not answered unless you withold your phone number so it is not shown on their caller display. Eventually you will find that you have no choice but to storm in and make a fool of yourself at their show room. I will NEVER EVER use DeVries Honda again. Absolutely terrible!!!

I like the cars that Honda produce. They are usually of a good quality build. In fact, of all the different makes of cars that I have owned, Honda have been the most reliable and satisfying to own and run. Unfortunately, the dealer in my area, DeVries Honda, employ a bunch of "not very nice people" (to put it politely) in their service department. I shall service my own car from now on (as it is out of its warranty period) and I will probably buy a different make of car next time I change cars. It's a real shame as the only problem is my local dealer!!! I may still buy another Honda but will certainly not go for a service at my local dealer as it stands now.
