Stuff it down the back of your boot! The kickstart has a habit of kicking back!
As a courier of many years, I have always had one of these wee beasties in the back of the garage. When its wet and cold, and nothing else will start. You can depend on one of these little things to get the job done.
I was frequently embarrased by the piffling amounts of petrol needed to fuel it - garage attendants trying to remind me there was a minimum at most petrol pumps - and did you know that with careful packing you can get four Dachshunds on one? but that is not a story for either here or the faint hearted.
Firstly, they seem to run on fuel vapour. One sniff of the old four star, and you are well on your way to John o groats via Landsend. You can ignore them, abuse them, forget to clean them, be totally ignorant of the words "maintenance" and "oil". Howe do they repay you? By starting every time, first time (though not always with the starter - a good boot is needed) and by sailing through the MOT year in and year out.
Attendance at motorcycle rallies on one is not recommended. Hairy bikers will laugh and jeer - even buy you a pint to commiserate, then when their friends are in the loo, will come out with misty eyes to tell you all about the one they keep at home (just for sentimental reasons of course). Cheap to insure, cheaper to run, parts plentiful at every breakers yard, they are a reliable, user friendly little creature, now sadly made pretty much usless by the new CC laws. Lets be honest. No matter how great, if you can ride over 50cc, you arent going to upgrade to a 90cc are you?
But everyone should have one tucked away somewhere. When that big shiny brute in the heated garage refuses to start, you will have a small friend to drag out of the potting shed and get you where you need to be!
Dont be put off by high mileage if from an older owner who has had it serviced regularly. And I swear the paint finish deteriorated with the newer models. Pick an old, clean example, and look forward to many miles of trouble free transportation.
