I have fallen into the trap of buying hooded towels for both of my children and each time wondering why I bothered.
Basically what they are are very small towels, more like hand towels, with an extra triangle shaped piece of towel sown into one corner in order to make a hood.
This time I chose a Mothercare pack of three towels in shades of pink and white. This cost me £12, but if you shop around you can find them slightly cheaper at around £3 per towel, or a lot more expensive like toys r us at £9.99 per towel!
I was disapointed with the mothercare ones as while in the pack they look quite thick and soft but upon opening you realise that the thickness comes from layers of cardboard wedged in between each towel! They are thin and not exactly rough but they could be softer.
The idea is that you put the hood over the babys head, lying baby diagonally across the towel. You then wrap the baby up in the other corners of the towel.
This sounds okay in theory until you actually try and fit your babies head into the hood, which is difficult even with newborns as the hoods are so small. Then you have to wrap the small remainder of the towel around a screaming baby who has just got out of the bath and is moving its arms and legs up and down frantically and throwing the towel off! Its impossible.
So I have given them up again! My daughter now uses them to dry her baby dolls after their bath and for this purpose they work well because the dolls don't move!
I now use a big soft normal towel to dry the baby as this way I can wrap it around a couple of times and it will stay on even when she wriggles.
I understand how tempting they are to buy, because I've been daft enough to do it twice, they are pretty but they really arent a neccesity and the novelty soon wears off believe me!
Thanks for reading x

I too had these - but avoided using them. My little one much preferred the towel that is too large for even me. And I still use this now.

Like you I fell into this trap too and bought loads of them. They are difficult to use. I wish I had purchased normal towels, which would have been much cheaper :-)
Charming little bath time necessity. Imagine how cute a baby would look with this on! ... more
