Advantages Reasonably light for an upright.
Disadvantages Poor suction, overheats, falls over, short cable, clogs easily, fiddly emptying, poor durability

Okay, where to start. This isn't actually something which I bought - rather it came with a rented, furnished flat as one of the appliances. I have come to the conclusion that in my opinion this is the most annoying vacuum cleaner ever to have been built. The cleaner seems to be good at one thing, and that is acting as a very loud space heater. So a bit of a bonus in the winter, but this is meant to be a vacuum cleaner, not a fan heater! While it appears to produce a very high suction pressure (if you catch the curtains with the end of the hose for example, it will try very hard to pull them ... more

Does the Hoover DM4523 suck? 05/04/2007

Advantages inexpensive and has great suction
Disadvantages fiddly to use, clogs up easily

Firstly, why did I buy this cleaner? We've had three Dysons over the past six years or so - they keep breaking down. Now, I really must explain that this is nothing to do with an overly dirty house! Given repair costs etc we have rarely had them fixed. When the last Dyson we had broke down we decided that forking out £250+ every other year or so was daft, and so we decided to try another brand. We wanted: Good suction Good design with edge tool, etc Bagless Reasonably lightweight My wife prefers uprights Stair cleaning facility Low cost - initially and ongoing, in terms of lifelong washable ... more

Quick review of Hoover DM 4523 DUST Manager Silver/BLUE by MarieRAtkinson 09/11/2008

This is the worst hoover I have ever bought. A total waste of money. Doesn't suck and needs filters cleaning after every use - these then take days to dry so it's out of action until they do! Cuts out due to overheating after only a few mins so takes all day to do the house! Have now had much pleaure in throwing it away and buying a lovely Meile which is amazing! DO NOT BUY IT! less

Quick review of Hoover DM4523 by bankbabe 02/05/2008

I have been struggling with this animal for months. It seemed great in the shop, but the filter clogs each time I use it and it dosen't pick up well on any surface. The upright lock on the handle has broken. The dust is blown around instead of sucked up. The dust container is unpleasant to empty, which has to be done every time I use it. I am going to throw it out, cut my losses and go back to a bagged model. The job of cleaning is hard enough without trying to use an unfriendly machine. I will probably ... more

Quick review of Hoover DM 4523 DUST Manager Silver/BLUE by iain9999 15/06/2008

The filters clog up after every use which means very little of the dust is collecting in the dust collector, it all ends up back on the floor when you dismantle it to get the filters out. It gets very hot very quickly and then cuts out so you have to wait 20 minutes for it to cool down before you can use it again. Hoovering the house now takes all day. This Hoover wouldn't be worth having if it was free. less
