A Hoover is a very important household piece of equipment, which is why it’s always wise to carry a spare. I was given a Hoover Turbo Power 2 hoover cleaner due to my Dad upgrading to an electro contour 500 with enough suction to take your hand off!
My First impression of the Hoover was “ what a heap… but it don’t cost me anything”. I gave it a whiz round the house. I was now way impressed by its performance but it had a good enough excuse… I t was nearly 9 years of age. It has served my Dad well over the 9 years of use with at least one cat about all of the time so its obviously been well used.
Appearance.
Well behind the various scratches and a bash where the poor thing has collided with the wallpaper was a very dark blue Hoover. The general appearance is dull and it’s obvious this is not a top of the range model. At the rear of the Hoover you have all you usual tools, which are generally good quality.
Suction.
When new the power of this Hoover was to a good standard of quality but within the last year or so the pick up has decreased rapidly. You have to go over a room several times before it is almost free from muck and dust. In general i am not too pleased with the performance of this Hoover.
Reliability.
This Hoover tends to block up very easily so it has often been taken to pieces. Various parts have been changed so the Hoover specialist knows TP2 quite well. I can’t say this Hoover was built to last because of the squeaks and rattles that have occurred
Noise.
Again pretty much average in every aspect. My father tells me there has been a slight change in noise but very little it was only noticed when compared to a new one.
Bags.
Bags can be obtained cheaply and easily from any good Hoover specialist. I recently bought a service pack, which includes 8 bags, a filter and a belt for an unbelievably cheap
price of £1.00 (usally £9.99 in Comet). The bags are easily fitted and removed literally a 10 second job.
Weight.
This Hoover is not the heaviest of Hoovers nor is it the lightest so it would score 5/5 here. Someone young and able can quite easily drag it up the stairs but for those old or unfit a lighter Hoover would be required.
Ease of use
In general this Hoover is very easily used and would need some of the stupidest people to actually make use of the user guide. As no user guide came with the Hoover I cannot remark on the user guide. All the switches are easily laid out. The ones for selecting the type of carpet i.e. thick, thin etc are located on the bottom section of the Hoover so again this may pose a problem for the elderly.
Extra Plastic tubes and accessories
This Hoover comes with 2 plastic tubes and 2 small brushes. The plastic tubes are very useful and as for the brushes I don’t think I have every used them! But there always their if you need them. After use all of the brushes and tubes are easily slotted back to there positions which makes life easier.
Value.
This Hoover was approximately £85 to buy new around 9 years ago so I suppose it hasn’t been a bad buy. Would I buy another? No, certainly not I much prefer those little one that you drag around on the floor, which are just as
power full yet cheaper too! I have spotted one for a mere £24.99!
In general.
Generally this hasn’t been a bad buy even after the blockages but there comes a time where its useless and 9 years is a good age for a hoover! It hasn’t been a bad one just not a good one so its pretty much average.
