Its Saturday night and I'm exhausted from a stressful week at work, and I am quite happily curled up in my PJs with a mug of my fav tipple. All my peers are out on the Britney Spears, and here I am, writing a review on Horlicks with the full knowledge that I will need nothing in order to help me sleep tonight.
What is it? Horlicks was the first ever instant malted drink. It?s a nourishing hot ?food? drink, which has the wholesome goodness of malted barley, wheat and dairy ingredients. It also comes in a chocolate flavour, and has ?light? varieties. (The difference basically being that with the light variety, you can make the drink with water rather than with hot milk.) This opinion is going to concentrate on the ?original? version, as it?s the nicest, and let?s face it, I haven?t got all night, and bed is calling me...
What does it taste like? Creamy, malty, sweet, soothing, nourishing. An excellent late night drink. I gave up coffee not too long ago, and now I am addicted to Horlicks instead. It tastes best with fudge, at about 8pm when you have nothing more pressing to do than to sit in the bath with a good book. Drink it out of a huge mug, and it tastes even better. Its got the feel-goos factor, and the malty heaven that reminds me of mars bars.
Original Horlicks It comes in four sizes, 2kg, 800g, 400g and 200g. A 32g serving 2.4g of protein, 18.8g of carbohydrates, 1 g of fibre, and only 1.2g of fat. The 200g costs £1.59, the 400g costs £3.25. Obviously the bigger pack you buy the better deal you get, but it has a limited use by date: you are only supposed to use it for only four weeks after opening. The 400g pack makes about 13 servings. You need two to three scoops (about 30g) per serving which looks like a lot in your cup! Horlicks is widely available in most supermarkets. Traditional Horlicks made up with 1/3 pint whole milk provides 222 calories. With semi-skimmed milk it has only 181 calories. (only? Wait a minute, that?s a kitkat and a half)?
Whats in it that's so good for you?
Protein, Carbohydrate (Horlicks provides a mixture of carbohydrates including maltose, lactose, sucrose and more complex carbohydrates, Fat , Vitamin A, Niacin, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin C, Folic Acid Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, Vitamin E, Vitamin B6, Iron, Calcium. (Yes, you can just about live on it?.)
Allergies and special diets
Horlicks is not suitable for anyone who excludes fish from their diet. (fish gelatine is used in the process of breaking down some of the vitamins. It is not recommend for babies of less than 12 months old but its ok for toddlers. In America you can get "Junior Horlicks"!
The malt variants of Horlicks are caffeine free. (Hurrah!) (Of course the choc versions are not.)
Horlicks contains gluten so is not suitable for coeliacs, and it has traces of peanut oil, so avoid it if you have a peanut allergy.
Although pregnant women are advised against consuming too much vitamin A, it is extremely unlikely that you could consume enough to take in Vitamin A at a harmful level. (you?d have to drink about 20 cups a day, they reckon.) Easy peasy?
The Verdict
A reasonably priced, comforting drink that makes a good alternative to coffee or hot chocolate, with the added benefits of a host of vitamins. Hot milky drinks promote good sleep patterns and are good stress relievers. Highly recommended for bad hair days, and quiet Saturday nights.
Advantages: Tasty, luxurious, sleepy time drink. Disadvantages: None really, unless you don't like flavour of malt.
...bought a large box of Horlicks Light, the malt chocolate version, in anticipation of some quality forty winks! You can buy the range in various sized packages, including single sachets, 200g and 400g jars, 500g boxes or even a bumper 1kg bucket of the original drink. Priced from 0.37p to £3.79 accordingly.
Well suffice to say it seems to work, but why? Well a hot milky drink has always been thought of as a good aid to restful sleep – milk is known ... ...a vitamin pill. Horlicks comes in a range which is split into original, and light. The original varieties are designed to be made up with hot milk, whereas the light drink is to be made up with hot water. Using the light version still gives you the milk/malt effect that helps you sleep – it’s just that there’s less milk in the total drink! The light version contains, amongst other ingredients, skimmed milk powder and milk proteins.

...What is it? Horlicks is an instant malted drink which can be made with either milk or hot water depending on your preference. It is said to help you sleep and it certainly does this for me. In addition to the sleep inducing benefits, a single mug of Horlicks is a great source of calcium and major vitamins, much better than popping a vitamin pill. Range The Horlicks range includes Horlicks Original which is the more traditional product which most ... ...is a lower fat version, Horlicks Extra Light which is even lower in fat. They also produce various flavoured Horlicks such as chocolate, dreamy vanilla, cosy caramel and heavenly amaretto. Cost I normally buy my Horlicks from Tesco and a 500 gram tub will cost you £2.49 which I think is fairly reasonable. Making The Drink To make the drink you simply add two to three scoops of the powder to your mug, and then add hot (not boiling) water and stir. ...

Although Horlicks Original is very popular, they have now added a few more varieties to choose from. Chocolate, Chocolate Malt and now a lighter version of Horlicks Original. ... ...as I love the Horlicks Original, it's this one that I am writing about today.
Although there are so many bedtime drinks to choose from, Horlicks is easy to spot amongst its rivals. The packaging consists of bright blue labelling and on the front is a steaming mug of horlick's. The steam floating out of the mug cleverly displays the famous Horlick's logo.
Opening the jar I can immediately smell a strong malty whiff. It's not too unpleasant, but ...

...than a nice mug of Horlicks before you go to bed in an evening. Experience has taught me that it’s great tool for helping you nod off. It’s deliciously creamy and just tastes of childhood. Besides, it’s good for you –after all it’s packed with malty goodness. Well, that’s what I’ve always told myself. Whether this is a good thing is purely a matter of taste. I actually enjoy crunching on the lumps that refuse to dissolve on the surface of the traditional version. It’s all part of the Horlicks experience for me.
The next thing you notice is the smell. The smell of Horlicks is unmistakable – it’s got a maltyness all unto itself and this version is true to the ...

Advantages: Lovely taste, thick and creamy, useful if off my food Disadvantages: Fiddly to microwave, flip top pops open sometimes
Horlicks is a malted hot drink made with milk, which is marketed as the ideal drink for bedtime based on the old wives tale that a warm milky drink before you go to bed relaxes you and promotes a restful night’s sleep. I'm not really one for sleep aids as I would rather address the issues that are likely to keep me awake, I do listen to music if I can't sleep though. Horlicks comes in three different varieties, including the Light and Extra Light which are made with water rather than milk. The latter comes in a few different flavours - I've already mentioned the Chocolate one, but that’s another review. Advantages: You can make it nicer. Disadvantages: but it will not be so light.
After having a hard week and my body gone into shock mode, I slept most of Saturday as I have a wakeup time of 5.30am.
When I woke up on Saturday, I popped into my local Spar and saw a double sachet of Horlicks Light for 57p. I thought this might make me chill for a bit. In supermarkets it is around the 50p mark.
The packaging

Double packet that is made out of foil. The packets are two tone blues and has Horlicks in Capital letters over it. Underneath there is a mug of horlicks and writing saying its the light malted drink.

How do I make it?

Put one of the sachets in a cup add a little boiling water and stir like mad for 30 secs to make sure all the powder has dissolved. Then ...

0ooooo-Horlicks Light Malt-ooooo0
I. INTRO
I have written this review, after recently, i just fancied a mug of good old Horlicks:
1. Go to cupboard, get out Horlicks
2. Add precise amount in to prevent over-maltiness.
3. Mix with warm milk (involves warming up milk)
4. Add water.
A very long process when its late and you just want to go in bed and not wake up for a long time.
So after this experience impatient me decided to get some of the newer Horlicks, the type were only adding water is necessary. I now drink it every night before i go to bed, almost like a ritual now, to get more restful sleep, relieve the stresses of the day and just to enjoy the loveley malty goodness.
In this op i will show you what the "Food drink of the night" is, what it does, why its better than the "classic" versoin, and tell you just ...

As you all know, I am a person who is stressed. This is part of everyday life for me. I have problems, and like so many other Ciao members, come here and air them from time to time, so you know who I am and what makes me tick.
I am writing this opinion because I have found a drink that helps me with my stress levels, and lets me sleep. They used to call it the food drink of the night, and I know why.
This product is Horlicks Light, and how it compares with Horlicks traditional is that it does not make you feel like you are going to bed with an uncomfortably full stomach.
SO WHAT IS HORLICKS LIGHT ?
