Box Of Filth
Review of Box Of The Banned (Box Set) by sghawken

Advantages: A value pack of classic horror
Disadvantages: The effect of this box set just is not right

In 2000 this DVD box set would have been worth an arm and a leg. 2000 was a big year for banned movies, most of the movies that were banned in the UK were granted a certificate, most of which were passed uncut. However in 2005 when box of the banned was released it was practically worthless before it hit the shelves. The reason being is that most of the titles in this box set were released in 2000 and by 2005 were out in budget versions. When Box ...
...I purchased this 6 movie box set for just £9.99 from play.com. It has since risen again to £14.99 but its still a better buy now than purchasing individually. So onto the movies contained in this lavish box set:- ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS This was one of the most notorious of the video nasties. It also bought director Lucio Fulchi to the attention of the world. The story basically tells of a boat that floats into New York harbour with no visible crew ... Read review

Beware of Mummy

...Although a dark comedy, the balance between the horror and the comedy is so well placed that it's a fun ride for anyone who watches it. Fun performances from Fraser and Rachel Weisz add to the tongue-in-cheek Saturday matinee appeal boosted by modern special effects can only improve on the Raiders of the lost Arch genre. . Screenwriter/director Stephen Sommers has taken license on this format and extended belief with flesh-eating beetles and battling ... Read review

Life is the Big Bad in Buffy's Season Six
Review of Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Series 6 - Complete DVD by amytheduck

Advantages: The fantastic, "Once More, With Feeling" musical episode
Disadvantages: The overall plot arc isn't as tight as in previous seasons

Season six of Buffy the Vampire Slayer saw a lot of changes, with the storylines becoming darker, more depressing and growing up a lot. Previous seasons of Buffy have always had a clear Big Bad - Angelus in season two, Adam in four and Glory in five - but for a lot of season six there's very little pointing to how the season will end. Season six is mainly about life being the Big Bad - there won't always be monsters and vampires, but there'll always ...
...after returning from the dead Buffy can't seem to find a direction in life and sinks into a depression. Willow becomes addicted to magic and her relationship with Tara suffers as a result. Xander and Anya have to deal with their impending nuptials and this puts strain on their relationship. Dawn feels like no one is paying her any attention and rebels in typical teenage manner, whilst Spike gets closer to Buffy. Returning this season are Jonathon ... Read review

Buffy has Potential
Review of Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Series 7 - Complete Buffy The Vampire Slayer by amytheduck

Advantages: Great episodes, great plot arc
Disadvantages: The Potentials!

After seven years, Buffy the Vampire Slayer finally came to an end in 2003 with its seventh season. Well - on the television anyway - hardcore fans will know that season eight is currently being released in comic book form! But that's not what I'm reviewing here - that honour goes to the final televised season of Buffy. With such a long and successful series, you'd expect it to go out with a bang - and that's what it does, in a big way. Many of ...
...After her depression last season, Buffy seems a lot happier - at the start of the season anyway. Spike spends a lot of his time going a little bit crazy from his new soul, and for another reason... Anya must deal with the ramifications of returning to her vengeful ways and Willow has to try and get past the darkness she found in season six. Xander and Dawn are rather superfluous in season seven, but they're pretty much a constant in all episodes. ... Read review
