A well made remake
Review of The Ring DVD by
AlexShaw
Advantages: More accessible than the Japanese original
Disadvantages: Can't avoid the "Hollywood-isation" completely
...Keller decides to get to the bottom of this mystery. Once she herself has seen the tape, she becomes convinced she is going to die. Calling on the aid of her ex they both set to work peeling away the layers of a very disturbing story. What they find at the bottom is not pleasant.
I was fortunate enough to see the original 'Ring' or rather 'Ringu' (Hideo Nakata 1998) before the US remake was announced and it stuck in my mind like a splinter. From ... ...by the artful and most notably restrained hand of the craftsmen who put it together. It was subtle and effective and left you feeling washed out, rattled and distressed; everything a great chiller should. I therefore had a mixed reaction when I found out that Hollywood had seen it too and wanted to make it accessible to a wider audience (read "American horror junkies with bottomless wallets and many friends"). I saw the sequel to the original and ...

When science goes wrong
Review of Hollow Man (Wide Screen) by
Beckim
Advantages: Outstanding CG work
Disadvantages: Basic plot, not really a horror.
Whilst many people may slate this horror movie of 2000, I personally enjoyed it- the lack of an unpredictable storyline may have marred it, but the computer graphics are breath-taking…and so, on with the review!

The Ring
Review of The Ring DVD by
xx-baby-davies-xx
Advantages: casting
Disadvantages: none
...seen, however still very memorable. The plot consists of a journalist investigating a videotape with very disturbing images that may have killed four teenagers, now even through the cheesy plot of a killer video tape, it really drawed me in. The reason she begins to investigate, is one the teenagers that was killed was her niece, after hearing about the urban legend about this killer video tape that after 7 days of watching it you will die. Rachel ... ...the legend is true, she only has seven days to reverse the evil that is now after her, and after her son after he watches the tape. The plot was very different to other horror films, and normally I don’t enjoy horrors as I believe most of them have the same plot over and over again.
The director called Gore Verbinski has directed great other films like pirates of the Caribbean 2, the weather man and the Mexican. All other great films of mine, this ...

Welcome To The Slashwalk
Review of Strip Nude For Your Killer DVD by
sghawken
Advantages: Some great preservation work
Disadvantages: Poor character development
...next Shameless Screen Entertainment movie: Strip Nude For Your Killer (Nude per l'assassino). Made back in 1975 this movie has been sadly elusive in the UK, while overseas it has been an incredibly popular purchase for collectors of the Italian thriller genre otherwise known as Giallo! My first encounter with the movie occurred two years ago, when against advice I purchased the German X-Rated edition. The movie was quite literally chucked onto the ... ...a lot of Italian movies Strip Nude For Your Killer was shot entirely in Italian, this needs explaining I guess; frequently in Italian movies the cast are global, in many movies the cast spoke in their own language, or were forced to speak in English, then often dubbed into whatever language was appropriate for the movies audience. The result is that for those a little on the picky side, it's obvious that this movie has been dubbed into English. The ...
