The softer side of Herbert.
Review of The Magic Cottage - James Herbert by carla33

Advantages: A good introduction
Disadvantages: A little mild for Herbert

...and gore, but brilliant just the same. This is story that shows you sometimes the most beautiful things can also be the most terrifying. When moving to a beautiful run down cottage in the country in order to escape the hussle and bussle of city life, Midge and Mike thought they had found their haven, Wild animals on the door step, love and creativity. Great Balls of Fire
Review of Portent - James Herbert by Starshine8

Advantages: So apt for our current climate change
Disadvantages: Don't read it at bedtime, the night will pass quickly, and you'll still be reading when it's time to goto work

...over evil. In Portent the world is a changing place, unexplained phenomena are occuring all over with disasterous results for the humans living on this planet, but as Herbert says the planet is trying to heal itself. Fairies are real...
Review of Once - James Herbert by amylovelace

Advantages: Great if you are a kid at heart
Disadvantages: Don't bother reading it if you lack imagination

I am a big fan of James Herbert but I generally don't read best-sellers - this time I made an exception - after I read the blurb i just had to have it!!! It mixes horror with fantasy: including witches / goblins / fairies etc... If you are scared of spiders you should be warned ...
...probably give you nightmares for years to come (as it did me). You should also be warned (although you may expect it if you are an avid James Herbert fan) of the sexual content... it was very strange!!! The only thing that made this book hard to read was that I had to keep throwing it to the floor when it got too scary! ... Read review
