Review of Plague of the Dead (The Morningstar Strain) - Z.A. Recht by awaykitcom

Advantages: None strong enough to be called advantages
Disadvantages: Confused sense of direction, charachters are note developed, better options out there

I find the zombie genre very hit and miss. This, sadly, is a miss. It's not nearly as bad as David Moody's 'Autumn' series but it suffers from a complete lack of originality. The writing is often acceptable but the author has an annoying habit of slipping into the childish for part sentences and full paragraphs. The plot jumps around from location to location but is handled in a way that you cannot really get a sense of the charachters and so you ... Read review

Psychomarvelous!
Review of Psychosphere Trilogy - Brian Lumley by baalzamon

Advantages: Gripping sci-fi horror
Disadvantages: None that I can see!

...Psychomech Trilogy, comprised of Psychomech, Psychosphere and Psychamok, is one of the earlier works of best selling British sci-fi/horror writer Brian Lumley, who is best known for his best selling Necroscope series and numerous short story collections. I'll attempt to give a relatively brief summary of each of the books. PSYSCHOMECH The first book begins in the early 70s and introduces us to Richard Garrison, an English soldier who loses his ...
...- £8.24 for Psychomech or Psychosphere (paperback) and £10+ for Psychamok (hardback). I should imagine that high-street shops will charge similar prices to Amazon. Amazon Traders are slightly better, but ebay seems to be your best bet, with current auctions offering each of the three for around £1-2 plus a similar amount in postage. Can't say fairer than that now, can you? ... Read review

Masterful!
Review of Phantoms - Dean Koontz by awaykitcom

Advantages: It's jsut brilliant
Disadvantages: None

Phantoms is the pinnacle of Koontz' horror writing. A woman and her younger sister arrive home at the small town where they live, up in the mountains, and find that everyone has vanished. From that creepy starting point, Koontz brilliantly up the suspense and the terror right through to a massive and very satisfying climax. I love Phantoms for many reasons. It moves along at a pace that keeps you in suspense but doesn't leave you frustrated. Introducing ...
...tingling, espescially if you are having a late night reading session on your own. Koontz has had some hgih points in his career and some very low, but no matter if you've been elated or disappointed in the past, give Phantoms a chance and you will not be disappointed! ... Read review

Beautiful Pandora's Tale...
Review of Pandora - Anne Rice by schpic

Advantages: Interesting, thrilling, funny, almost tragic
Disadvantages: No Lestat for Lestats lil groupies *grins*

The Vampire Pandora is asked to tell the story of her life, how she was born into darkness, and how she has survived so long. It's a wonderfully written life story, from Pandora's childhood to meeting her lover Marius for the first time, to coming into the "savage garden" as Lestat and Louis may say. It's a brilliant book for those wanting to see the Vampire life from an ancient females point of view, which isn't seen often through the Vampire Chronicles. ... Read review

Great Book
Review of The Eyes of the Dragon - Stephen King by tarachen

Advantages: Related to Dark Tower, good story
Disadvantages: Basic story line not that orginal maybe!

Probably the 'purest' fantasy book written by King. Totally different from other books he has written. Excellent story, and another appearance from 'Flagg' will make his constant readers interested! The story takes place in a world during medieval times. It centers on the King's death. Flagg insures that the older, and more honest son, is imprisoned for his murder. Flagg then corrupts the younger son and new king. The inevitable, but rather ingenious, ... Read review
