Good grief, Anne Rice!
Review of Servant of the Bones - Anne Rice by catina122

Advantages: Good book to read if never read Anne Rice books before
Disadvantages: This is a sad tale, if you are looking for happy, don't read.

This is a great book to read if you have never read an Anne Rice tale before. This story is not part of a series as is her usual style with the Vampire Chronicles and the Tales of the Mayfair Witches. It is also a great book for any Anne Rice fan, to get a new story not related to the witches or vampires. I enjoyed this book very much, as I am a very big fan of Anne's, and have read all of the vampire and witch tales. I was ready for a new story, ...
...is a very sad tale of tricks and long suffering, so those of you looking for a happy story will want to go with something else. However, if you are a horror fan, or like plot twists or detailed descriptive background stories of deceipt and trickery, not to mention ghosts and the like, then this is a book for you. It is an excellent tale of grief and long suffering, as told by the main character in a style similar to Interview with the Vampire. If ... Read review

Disappointing
Review of Blood Canticle - Anne Rice by DoubleEspresso

Advantages: The Chronciles are finished
Disadvantages: Your favourite characters are not the same

I am very surprised by the positive books this book has recieved. I expected to read negative reviews from people who share the same disappointment as myself. I've read a lot of Anne Rice and this is undoubtedly the worst. The tantilizing character of Lestat has changed- and not for the better. His vanity becomes arrogant and simply obnoxious. Rice's new found relgious fervour finds it's way into this book and destroys her characters. Lestat becomes ...
...for my liking. The book is sloppily written, and I'm not the first to say this. She recieved so many negative reviews on amazon and from critics she posted her own reply on Amazon claiming her critics to be wrong. This is the worst possible ending to the Vampire Chronicles and left me feeling disappointed. I would recommend reading this book only to finish the chronicles but not to go in expecting much. ... Crickley Hall - More like Creepy Hall.
Review of The Secret of Crickley Hall - James Herbert by Maximus-Qualitus

Advantages: Simply Fantastic read
Disadvantages: None

The Secret of Crickley Hall. James Herbert. When writing a book review I sometimes put to much plot, so this time I am going to try and get the balance right with this review. I bought this book a while back, picked it up and put it down. I thought it would be a ghost story that I wouldnt like. Well I was right and I was wrong. Whilst it is a ghost story, it is in a class of its own. An extrodinary written ghost story which grips you from the ...
...I was wrong, I loved the book ! The book begins with Herberts usual fantastic discriptive talents, setting Crickley Hall clearly in the readers mind. The narrative between the characters is superbly written and Herbert gives various chapters to each character showing the story from their points of view. The pace of the book is not racey but that doesn't distract from the creeping horror hidden within the house and within the story. It is a Friday ... Read review

Secrets of the Ka-Tet
Review of The Dark Tower: Wolves of the Calla v. 5 - Stephen King by Lfw86

Advantages: Loads of detail, and info into characters past and their journey's so far.
Disadvantages: Took some time to reach the climax, which was short-lived.

...put it down. One of the best books of the dark tower series. Follow Roland and his Ka-Tet as they battle their way through distrust, lies, betrayal, and above all the wolves of Calla. Each of the Ka-Tet has their own secret they do not want to share, th Ka-Tet has it's secret that it doesn't want to share with Calla- Bryn- Sturgis, yet they must all stick together to save the village and to save the tower. Crucial insight into the next step of the journey.
Review of The Dark Tower: Song of Susannah Bk. 6 - Stephen King by Lfw86

Advantages: Gripping plots and twists.
Disadvantages: Too much emphasis on one plot.

...books. A crucial insight into the next step for Roland and his Ka-Tet, on their journey for the dark tower. Filled with twists and gripping plots it will have you yearning for more, as you urge Jake to reach the door, and to find Susannah. It entwines through many different worlds providing details and links that seem no more then coincidence, but they turn out to be Ka.
