A trip through the "different seasons"
Advantages: funny, well crafted, descriptive Disadvantages: not a piece of bad here. with the exception of the silly blurb.:P
...others may have already said, Different Seasons is King's finest example of literature outside the horror genre. He has been marked out as a horror writer for years and this really shows me can do almost anything. I think by far the best short story in here is Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, the tale of a man wrongly sent to jail for 2 life sentences. Loads more people have seen the brilliant movie starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins ... ...exellent read, they must read it themselves. The writing is great, with respect to detail and twists in the plot. The characters are well defined, you really get to feel for the them. The book has the strange ability to wrench the heart while at the same time constantly make you giggle to yourself, as it is peppered with King's trademark humour throughout. It's really just a story of Hope("Hope Springs Eternal) and how it can strengthen a person ...

Demon Seed by Dean Koontz
Advantages: addictive style of writing - you cant put it down!! short book (under 200 pages) Disadvantages: Fluency of book not so good at times - repetitive phrases throughout, gets annoying!
Demon Seed is a science fiction novel by Dean Koontz - the story is about a divorced 30 something woman called Susan, who lives in a large mansion alone in the country - due to being abused by her Father and also her ex-husband, she has a state of the art security system installed in the house - voice controlled lights, heating, electrical appliences, security camera's inside and out, electronic metal shutters for all the windows. Meanwhile, her ... ...Adam 2, which is the first independant thinking computer in the world - the most intelligent computer ever created! What he didn't know was that Adam 2 was capable of feelings, needs, love & lust!
Adam 2 manages to take control of Susan's security system in her house, and watches her, day & night, every day falling deeper in love with her - until he finally locks down the house so she cant escape. His plans. . . to create a child with Susan, and ...

Action, adventure and a canine comic.
Advantages: Great action Disadvantages: Could make you paranoid
I first read this novel about four years ago and remembered that I could not put it down, so when I was clearing out books to sell on Ebay I thought I’d read it again as I could not remember the exact ending.
*THE STORYLINE*
The novel is centred on the main character, Spencer Grant, and his adorable dog, Rocky. Grant is a loner and from the first chapter there are clues to his obvious torment of things in his past. A chance encounter with a waitress ... ...hope of a new life, but all is shattered when on his return visit to her, he finds she has fled.
Curiosity leads him deep into her world, with false names and a life on the run, although who she is running from is unclear to him. He endeavours to find this mysterious woman. Eventually, he learns she is being chased by an unknown agency for the information she possesses, Grant knows he must help her, as the same people are now chasing him.
*MY OPINION*

Beware constant reader, you could become drawn in
Advantages: A neat little history of horror, the lists at the back of the book Disadvantages: Could be a little too involved for those of you that are not real fans
I'm a huge fan of Stephen King, and a rather big fan of horror writing in general, when it is done well. This book differs from most of his books as it is a history of the genre of history, including many personal insights and a couple of really helpful lists at the back, which I will explain later.
From the outset, it is clear to see that King has a real passion for horror. He begins by dedicating his book to six horror writers that at the time ... ...point that the book was written in 1981. According to my copy, it wasn't printed in the UK until 1991. In total, the book has been reprinted around 20 times. It's a popular book, and with reason. He tells us of his discovery of horror - he was a ten year old boy. He even remembers the date for us - the fourth of October (my birthday) 1957 (but way before I was born!)
He tells us of the various films he has seen through the ages, and gives his personal ...

Another title from the author of "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen"
Advantages: different Disadvantages: not as thrilling as I would have thought
"The Girl on the Landing" is Paul Torday's third foray into novel writing, and having thoroughly enjoyed his first book ""Salmon Fishing in the Yemen", it was one that I was really looking forward to reading. The cover description looked intriguing, explaining as it does that it is the story of how Michael, who has been married to Elizabeth for ten years, sees a mysterious picture, and then "begins to change". I was expecting to read a dark thriller, ... ...that satirises our own, from the resume it sounded like it would be a chilling and interesting tale. To some extent this book was what I was expecting, but in other ways I, personally, felt this novel failed to deliver. The story following Michael and Elizabeth, who have been rather unsatisfactorily married for ten years, and are approaching middle age, childless and in a rut until the changes in Michael start had potential I felt. However from the ...
