Dead and almost forgotten
Review of Dying Words - Shaun Hutson by britum2000

Advantages: Another Shaun Hutson book.
Disadvantages: Another Shaun Hutson book!

...always fulsome and those for Dying Words were no exception. In them he admits to having writer's block for some time and reveals that a chance conversation with a friend gave him the idea for his latest offering. A newly inspired Shaun Hutson! My curiousity was aroused, so I delved in. Before I begin, a few words of caution are necessary about Shaun Hutson and his writing style, especially if you are new to the author. Hutson is a formula writer; ...
...So there you are, Dying Words is a locked room mystery thriller with the usual Hutson bad taste thrown in for good measure. He is certainly never going to win the Booker Prize but his schlock horror efforts will guarantee a healthy bank balance. If you want an undemanding read with cheap thrills, try it. Then again, there are some great authors out there, crying out to be read. The copy I picked up was a hardback, published by Orbit books at a cost ... Read review

Everything's Eventual
Review of Everything's Eventual - Stephen King by StephenW

Advantages: Contains some of Stephen King's best recent horror stories
Disadvantages: Compared to his earlier collections is a bit more hit-and-miss

'Everything's Eventual' (2002) by Stephen King **** This is the first collection of short stories by Stephen King I have read since 'Four Past Midnight' way back in 1990. I have always considered him a master of the form and, if anything, a better short story writer than he is a novelist - though I'm sure he wouldn't be too pleased to hear it. Previous collections include: 'Night Shift' (1978) ***** [astonishingly good], 'Different Seasons' (1982) ...
...(1990) ****½, 'Nightmares And Dreamscapes' (1993) & 'Hearts In Atlantis' (1999) - the last two of which I have yet to read. Compared to his early superlative collections I have to say 'Everything's Eventual' is something of a mixed bag. Never less than entertaining there are still more filler stories here than in my previous experience and rather too many moments when, having finished a tale, I couldn't help thinking "it was okay but King is capable ... The Harlequin by Laurell K Hamilton
Review of The Harlequin (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter) - Laurell K. Hamilton by evilzak

Advantages: Hot vampire/werewolf naughtiness with spooky thrills.
Disadvantages: Too many ramblings about relationships at the expense of the plot.

...have been sharply divided over the direction this longstanding series has taken: a quick Google will bring up some highly entertaining spats on assorted chat forums. Basically, if you enjoyed the earlier books but got freaked out by the kinky sex that started featuring more and more heavily after Narcissus in Chains then there's going to be plenty more to freak you through the wall and back in this one. However, if you enjoy great chunks of spooky ... Read review

Unusual and great book
Review of The Mummy or Ramses the Damned - Anne Rice by RedTape

Advantages: Very interesting, good writing, well rounded characters, etc
Disadvantages: none

...book. It's a change from the vampire novels she usually writes with a twist; and each moment in the first section had me looking forward to the moment when Ramses would rise and make himself known to the outside world. The plot is interesting and it makes you melt away into the book as usual; as well as the characters are well rounded unlike many such books of its kind. It's not scary like Stephen King novels, jsut unusual and brilliant. PLOT: This ...
...originally intended to be the script for a movie is what I heard, until the makers of the movie decided to change nearly everything. It is about what happens when an archaeologist find the mummy, Ramses II and then after he dies, the mummy and the archaeologist's treasures are given to his daughter Julie in England who finds that the mummy comes to life to be a man. ...
