A trip through the "different seasons"
Review of Different Seasons - Stephen King by
jovialduke
Advantages: funny, well crafted, descriptive
Disadvantages: not a piece of bad here. with the exception of the silly blurb.:P
...others may have already said, Different Seasons is King's finest example of literature outside the horror genre. He has been marked out as a horror writer for years and this really shows me can do almost anything. I think by far the best short story in here is Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, the tale of a man wrongly sent to jail for 2 life sentences. Loads more people have seen the brilliant movie starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins ... ...exellent read, they must read it themselves. The writing is great, with respect to detail and twists in the plot. The characters are well defined, you really get to feel for the them. The book has the strange ability to wrench the heart while at the same time constantly make you giggle to yourself, as it is peppered with King's trademark humour throughout. It's really just a story of Hope("Hope Springs Eternal) and how it can strengthen a person ...

Desperation
Review of Desperation - Stephen King by
steve0898
Advantages: Good for when you're travelling
Disadvantages: none
I don't go out of my way to read Stephen King books and was given this as a present. Oh my God! I've read it three times already. Apart from the fact it's a typical King MASSIVE Hardbook I could not put it down. It's about various individuals traveling through the Nevada dessert who are brought together to a small, what appears to be empty, town by a cop. Without spoiling the plot the cop isn't all he seems and neither is the town. Dark forces are ...

Dolores Claiborne
Review of Dolores Claiborne - Stephen King by
jeaniecz
Advantages: the language, narrating, catchy
Disadvantages: I don't think there are any
Stephen King - Dolores Claiborne
This book was actually the first of Kings' I've ever read and maybe that's also why it's stuck in my memory the best and somehow had the most of impact on me. I think that's what books do, when you're a teenager and you read about stuff that could have pretty much happened to you, too. It's also the only of his books I've read in Czech instead of English and I feel compelled to look up the original version and get ... ...to police investigators.
Storyline
Dolores Claiborne is an elderly lady who tells the story of her most recent life and the events that had put her to where she finds herself at the moment, that is, in an interrogator's office to make a statement about her involvement in the murder of Vera Donovan, Dolores' late employer. Dolores pleads not guilty, but right away she confesses to killing her husband Joe St.George. The murderer was not the gardener ...

Beware constant reader, you could become drawn in
Review of Danse Macabre - Stephen King by
abrokenstarr
Advantages: A neat little history of horror, the lists at the back of the book
Disadvantages: Could be a little too involved for those of you that are not real fans
I'm a huge fan of Stephen King, and a rather big fan of horror writing in general, when it is done well. This book differs from most of his books as it is a history of the genre of history, including many personal insights and a couple of really helpful lists at the back, which I will explain later.
From the outset, it is clear to see that King has a real passion for horror. He begins by dedicating his book to six horror writers that at the time ... ...point that the book was written in 1981. According to my copy, it wasn't printed in the UK until 1991. In total, the book has been reprinted around 20 times. It's a popular book, and with reason. He tells us of his discovery of horror - he was a ten year old boy. He even remembers the date for us - the fourth of October (my birthday) 1957 (but way before I was born!)
He tells us of the various films he has seen through the ages, and gives his personal ...

deafdude
Advantages: brilliant writer makes reading worth while
Disadvantages: what do you do after you finish it ???
This is a great stephen king book it is simular to alien in many ways but alien was written for the big screen and this was written for it to be a book .

its well described and excellently put together and with a bit of imagination you can even think you are there watching it at the cinema , infact if you see the ...
