Review of Hearts In Atlantis - Stephen King by readingac1

Advantages: five different stories, many pages
Disadvantages: the later stories seem a bit pointless

...into and addicted to playing Hearts for money. This eventually features the girlfriend from the first story. I really enjoyed this chapter of the book, as I too am currently on my first term of university, as well as it being an exciting read and showing some interesting things about human behaviour. This, in my opinion, is by far the best story in the book, and could easily be released as a book in its own right. I would say that this story is amongst ...
...has been a resounding success to me, but the next three stories, for me, could easily have been cut out. They are much much shorter than the first two and seem almost without point, and are for the most part completely uninteresting. These two feel tacked on, as if King needed to fill a quota of page numbers, or just got lazy towards the end. Getting through these last three was quite hard going, as I struggled to maintain my interest. I would recommend ... Read review

Trashy Classic Horror
Review of Haunted - James Herbert by amylovelace

Advantages: A very easy read - with an unexpected twist!
Disadvantages: A bit cheesy - especially the film

This is a classic scary story... it was the first I read by James Herbert and it got me hooked! It is a trashy horror - a nice easy read - but I wouldn't reccommend reading it alone in bed! It's so good that a film was made based on this book - film is a bit cheesy! It can be very frightening in parts - but if you are already a fan you will expect this. It is like one of those ghost stories you hear - that you are not sure whether to believe ... Read review

Review of Hell To Pay - Shaun Hutson by tuftie

Advantages: Hutson back on form
Disadvantages: None

...plane/beach/at the villa/etcetera. I spotted Hell To Pay in a rack of paperbacks. I decided to give it a go. What did I have to lose? It's free to borrow from the library, so if it's rubbish; c'est la vie. It wasn't rubbish. It was great. A return to form. A return to the good old days of sex and violence, troubled maverick coppers and underlying supernatural terror. Here's a summary of the plot and characters: DI Alan Fielding is investigating ...
...was a nice touch. Hell To Pay retails at £6.99, which is the going rate for a paperback. I got it out of the library for free. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes horror fiction, particularly if you enjoy urban British horror. I also recommend you join your local library. Two for one special.
Review of Hybrid - Shaun Hutson by atticusuk

Advantages: Entertaining with a good twist to the end
Disadvantages: None really

...their opinion were better and Hybrid was one of those so I took the plunge. When I got the book I was a bit worried about the cover as if I had seen this on a bookshelf I would have assumed it was a horror story and left it well alone however the reviewer and the blurb on the back suggested something different so I switched all the lights on in the house (just incase) and started to read. It was only after I finished the book that I noticed it does ...
...the case I would say it is at the mild end of the horror spectrum. The Plot The plot evolves around one single character, a once famous writer Christopher Ward whose career is very much in decline. He leads a solitary life in a rather large house struggling with periods of writers block as he struggles to write his latest novel. Increasingly he seeks to find comfort in alcohol and the occasional sexual encounter with a prostitute other than that ... Read review

Death and Beyond
Review of Hideaway - Dean Koontz by wiggglypufff

Advantages: Totally compelling read, no 'filler' content
Disadvantages: Puts some of Koontz's other novels to shame

...Dean Koontz at his best. Hideaway is a fantastically descriptive novel that succeeds in doing what I feel good writing should, it fills your mind with images, totally absorbs you, takes you away from the boundaries of normality and introduces you to a world that is beyond the average imagination, frighteningly surreal. You’re given little tasters of the plot developing as it twists and turns throughout the book but never too much at a time. ...
...yet to encounter Koontz, then Hideaway is a great introduction to his writing. Die-hard fan or casual reader, I’d be surprised if you are left anything less than completely taken by this book. You can buy Hideaway online from whsmith.co.uk, or amazon.co.uk for the normal price of £6.99 although it’s currently on sale at both sites for £5.59 (exc p&p). Publisher: Headline Bk. Pub. Binding: Paperback Published: 17 December 1992 ISBN: 0747238154 ... Read review
