Scarily Believable
Review of Supping With Panthers - Tom Holland by sartori

Advantages: Fantastic plot, dark, gothic feel, good characters
Disadvantages: Slightly slow to start

Set in the late 1880's, Supping With Panthers takes the reader from a remote part of India to the gas lit streets of London where the main character Dr. John Eliot returns after discovering a dark and evil secret deep in a mysteriuos Himalayan kingdom. The main thread of the story surrounds Eliot's investigation into the murder of an associate whos blood drained body was dragged from the Thames. Interacting with characters such as Lord Byron, Oscar ...
...truth surrounding the murder and meets the seductive Lilah who is definitely more than she first seems. The book is presented to the reader as a collection of journals, letters and papers that have been collected by Abraham Stoker to tell the story. Holland makes us believe that these events could have actually taken place with plenty of fact written into the story. The reader will learn how Bram Stoker came to write the story of Dracula and the ... Read review

A good argument for contraception....
Review of Spawn - Shaun Hutson by Drownkitty

Advantages: Usual horror and gore fest.
Disadvantages: Not as easy to get into as other Hutson novels

The Blurb: Released from a mental hospital where he has spent all his adult life, Harold Pierce is given a job as a hospital porter. But that job involves the disposal of aborted foetuses, something which brings back nightmare memories of Harold's accidental killing of his baby brother years before. A time of trauma and terror has begun, terror heightened by the escape from prison of convicted killer Paul Harvey who, hunted by the police, embarks ...
...about to unleash a terror beyond belief... I've been reading Shaun Hutson books for a while now I still haven't read them all but I intend to. I love his style of writing and his descriptiveness and the humour of some of the situations if wonderful. Some of the plot's are bizarre to say the least but I think that's what appeals to me. Our nutter Pierce has had a hard life his dad's gone his mum's on the game and he's seen things most children shouldn't ... Read review

Excellent...better than his more famous rivals???
Review of Slugs - Shaun Hutson by LARocker182

Advantages: Excellently written and unputdownable!
Disadvantages: Some may find it a little too gory in places!

...Although the concept of killer slugs is somewhat hard to grasp, "they are small and squirmy...how scary can they be", the actual book is excellent. Shaun Hutson is an excellent horror writer and if you've been reading the likes of Stephen King, James Herbert, and Dean Koontz, then you've missed one out and need to discover Shaun Hutson. His writing style is so much clearer than that of Stephen King for example who I sometimes find to be a bit rambling ...
...You must remember that this book is somewhat classic horror now following in the style of The Rats and Night of The Crabs, if you loved these of indeed like 80s horror then this is a must read as it stands the test of time and you almost forget its age and could mistake it for a newer publication. Also a quick work of warning this book is not for the faint hearted as Shaun Hutson's graphic horror scenes are just that GRAPHIC they leave little to ... Read review

Similar to Carrie / Exorcist
Review of Shrine - James Herbert by amylovelace

Advantages: Scary and weird
Disadvantages: It a bit sickening and immoral in parts

Oh my God! This book is really scary! Cross the Exorcist with Carrie and this is what you get! It is one of James Herberts earlier pieces of work - first published in 1983. This book delves into the paranormal aspect of catholicism - it is very frightening - more frightening than Carrie! A similar storyline to Carrie -it plays on the innocence of a young girl: misleading you into a false sense of security. I found this book in a staff canteen ...
...too! I read it over 5 years ago but I can still remember the story (which is quite shocking with my short-term memory). Just seeing the title again sent shivers down my back - reminding me of the times when I had to hide the book - the front cover can be quite scary when you are half-way through! One part in particular stays in my mind... set in an empty church, the main character gets chased by some unknown evil spirit and then finds he cannot open ... Read review

Another great book from Mr.Hutson!!!
Review of Stolen Angels - Shaun Hutson by Ragdoll26

Advantages: Great book, couldn't put it down.
Disadvantages: Sometimes a little harrowing.

I have had this book on my book shelf for about 5 years, and I finally got around to reading it recently. I wasn't to sure from the blurb if it was a book I wanted to read, as it contains "scenes" of child abuse and suicide. I discovered on reading it also contains references to witch craft and black magic. Not to mention satanic rituals. I was pleasantly surprised though that Shaun Hutson, the author of this brilliant book, didn't over elaborate ...
...be said of the suicides too. This book is, in brief, about the police trying to discover why 3 ordinary professional men, a surveyor, an accountant and an architect, all commit suicide. All 3 appear to be happy and successful, so why would they all want to kill themselves? That is the question Chief Inspector James Talbot has to answer. Also trying to solve the mystery is Catherine Reed, a journalist. She becomes involved when her lover, Philip ... Read review
