Necropolis
Review of The Power of Five: Necropolis - Anthony Horowitz by alexgd123

Advantages: Good cliffhanger ending for the next and last book. Very thrilling!
Disadvantages: A little too short, wanted more action!

...written by Anthony Horowitz, is the fourth installment of the "Power of Five", 5 book series about 5 children who have the power to save the world from evil creatures called "The Old Ones". The book starts before "Nightrise" ends, but from the point of view of Scarlett Adams, the protaganist and the fifth gatekeeper. There is a brief review of all 4 previous books incase the reader cannot remember or has missed a book out in the series, which I ...
...It starts off straight into the action as a 13 year old Scarlett almost gets hit by a van whilst not looking when crossing a road. She is saved by a mysterious chinese man who disappears before she can thank him for his actions. The book then moves 2 years into the future and Scarlett is on a school trip when she passes through a door and travels to a monastary in the Ukraine, where she is imprisoned. Scarlett then meets Father Gregory, a terrifyingly ... Read review

The softer side of Herbert.
Review of The Magic Cottage - James Herbert by carla33

Advantages: A good introduction
Disadvantages: A little mild for Herbert

...and gore, but brilliant just the same. This is story that shows you sometimes the most beautiful things can also be the most terrifying. When moving to a beautiful run down cottage in the country in order to escape the hussle and bussle of city life, Midge and Mike thought they had found their haven, Wild animals on the door step, love and creativity. But in true Herbert style things aren't as they seem, the neighbours are a little strange to ... Read review

Byron wins your heart and leaves you in fear.
Review of The Vampyre - Tom Holland by shanklin

Advantages: A gothic novel of epic proportion, trully amazing.
Disadvantages: Nope sorry cant think of any.

"It was the custom then for men such as myself, well bred and hopelessly in debt, to perform a tour of the Continent ... I wanted to sample new pleasures, new sensations, new delights..." History tells us that the close friends of Lord Byron burned his memoirs to hide the truth about his life and travels, wary that they may shock the outside world, this has left many to their imagination The book sets off along the darkened streets of 20th century ...
...world. We follow the actions of a descendent of the great and mysterious Lord Byron as she tries to track what she believes to be his memoirs after being told by a ghastly stranger that they still exist. Her mother has already been consumed by curiosity and has disappeared in her own search leaving no trace or clue to her whereabouts. Crikley Hall
Review of The Secret of Crickley Hall - James Herbert by DancingKate

Advantages: Keeps you guessing till the end
Disadvantages: none

...ill over Xmas it was the perfect tonic and excuse to stay in bed. A book well worth reading with the usual brilliance expected from the author. The beginning of the story has so many possibilities that you are kept guessing as to what could be occurring within Crickley Hall to cause the weirdness. There is a vast array of characters and depending upon your view of life it will be a personal choice as to whom the lead character within the novel ... Read review

Scare youyr pants off stuff
Review of The Dark - James Herbert by carla33

Advantages: Brilliant scare
Disadvantages: You'll never want to turn the lights off again

You'll never turn the lights off again!!! If you are a true horror lover, then this is the best one to read, you will never look at shadows the same way again. In true Herbert style this one really does keep you on the edge of your seat. Children that set fire to their parents, in mates killing attendents. the whole human race going nuts over the dark. If the dark was an entity would it really be this bad, I hope not. Scary stuff, probably one ... Read review
