IT - Stephen King
Review of It - Stephen King by dnpttrsn

Advantages: Deep, exciting
Disadvantages: Too long

...have read this you'll put it down and think; wow. The book revolves around a group of central characters who return to their childhood hometown - the infamous Derry, Maine - to defeat IT, a demon which haunted them as children and which they fear may be returning to take the lives of more children. The problem is that only children can see IT, and it takes the form of a child's worst nightmare. The reader establishes a connection with the character, ...
...switches between the characters' childhood lives and their current battle. If you have liked some of Stephen King's other works then this will be perfect for when you have alot of time on your hands, although a little long, I can honestly say that this was a profound and deep book. ... Richard Matheson's: I Am Legend
Review of I Am Legend - Richard Matheson by kpotts

Advantages: strong plot, good characters, good description
Disadvantages: short in length

...of Richard Matheson's 1954 novel I Am Legend'. I'm evaluating the success of the adaption in a detailed analysis of the film. I'll also be looking at the contrasts between the adapted novel and Henry James's Washington Square'. The high budgeted picture stars Will Smith' (Hitch, The Pursuit of Happiness) and his daughter Willow Smith' in her first film alongside Alice Braga' (Trampolim, Journey to the End of the Night). Robert Neville (Smith) is ...
...with Robert Neville (Smith) and I found myself striving for him to find the viral cure and some means of civilization. The audience are teared through themes of honour, pride, passion, love, hate, determine, I felt as though I was close to shedding a tear many times throughout the film. Up until the very end of the film things got gradually worse for smith. For me the most sad but beautiful shot in the entire film is when 'Robert's' god 'Samantha' ... Read review

You wont want to read this in the dark........
Review of In the Dark - Richard Laymon by NewYork2006

Advantages: A bit of suspense and thriller
Disadvantages: Poorly written and a but far fetched sometimes

...town and gets a job in the local Library. She feels her life is very mundane and boring and she will not be able to meet new people but then an envelope appears on her desk in the library with her name on it. She opens it to find $50 and a note with a clue which leads her upstairs to a book where she finds another envelope with a note but this time with $100. The notes are signed MOG (Master of Games) and each note has another clue which leads her ...
...in order to get the next envelope, each containing twice as much money as before. I started off really enjoying this book and thought the suspense was quite good and 'where will she be sent and what will she have to do next?' but then I thought the book started to get a little far fetched. First of all she is being sent to stranger and stranger places and being asked to do horrible things (such as walk into an abandoned house, go upstairs to an ... Read review

A Horrific Masterpiece
Review of Island - Richard Laymon by Arbobug

Advantages: Scary, tense, and brilliant
Disadvantages: None

Being the first book I read from this author, I didn't quite know what to expect. As it turned out, "Island" blew me away. Right from the very fist sentance to the climactic ending, this book is very hard to put down. The story is set (as the name suggests) on an Island. A family have gone there for a little holiday, when all of a sudden they find themselves stranded. Things then go from bad to worse, as the family discover that they are not alone; ...
...them out one by one ... The book is written in first person narrative, and is in the style of a diary kept by the main charactor, Rupert. One of the reasons for this is the very interesting plot twist at the end of the book ... A great read and one of the best books I have read in a long time. Richard Laymon is an incredible author! ... Read review

Yawn
Review of Insomnia - Stephen King by dnpttrsn

Advantages: Physcological, scary on a different level
Disadvantages: Boring, not truly terrifying

Yawn. Contrary to apparently popular belief this book, in my opinion, was actually pretty boring. The book revolves around the protagonist who finds it increasingly difficult to sleep since the passing of his wife (hence the title). He begins seeing stranger and stranger things, eventually passing into new dimensions and meeting otherworldly beings. I don't know. Its a hard book to judge. On the plus side the book is deeply physchological and considers ...
...of the scenes (for wont of a better word) can be truly penetrating and scary; but not in conventional horror style. The story is obviously well constructed and has an underlying moral meaning. On the other hand however the story can be at times confusing, and vague. In addition, although it pains me to say it I found this book pretty boring at times, and it seemed an effort, not a pleasure, to read. Some of the ideas are a little far fetched and ... Read review
