Review of The Long Walk - Stephen King by LyndsayC

Advantages: Plot, characters, descriptions...I could go on
Disadvantages: The ending is a little disappointing

...walking. Only one will survive. The winner's prize - whatever he desires. It *should* be boring, but it's anything but. You will cringe with horror at some of the happenings, and cheer for our main character, Ray Garraty. King conveys the experience of the boys with such clarity - you can almost see each individual before you. It's a lesson in life and, I think, in growing up, too. I think it's fair to say that the Walk makes men of them all. You ... Read review

Four Past Midnight
Review of Four Past Midnight - Stephen King by RedTape

Advantages: Book scares you into uncontrolled bowel movements
Disadvantages: May cause the reader to go into shock

...of macabre himself composed of four chilling short stories or novellas. If you love horror stories that can drive you into paranoia and have you sleeping with the lights on THIS IS THE PERFECT NOVEL TO READ. This book is composed of very different and intensely chilling novellas. These are: The Langoliers: This begins where passengers who have been sleeping on a plan wake up to find they are alone and that those who were awake have disappeared; and ...
...but I am going to tell you that from there, things take a horrifying turn, and no, it's nothing like the average airplane movie and does not include terrorists. Secret Window Secret Garden: A man accused of plagarism The Library Policeman: You have to read this. This is just sick, and scary. It's about the main character sam who has a terrifying encounter with "the library policeman" when he was younger and is now afraid to set foot in a library. ... Read review

Wolves Of The Calla Review
Review of Wolves Of The Calla: the Dark Tower - Stephen King by Zodar

Advantages: Beautiful story, language and characters.
Disadvantages: Might feel a bit too slow in pace at times to some.

In Wolves of The Calla, we once again join minds with Roland and his fellow Gunslingers. In the fifth novel in the Dark Tower series some important clues are revealed about the nature of the forces that inhabit the Dark Tower, worlds are switched, and the Gunslingers need to rally forces from different worlds to prevail. This is a classic King, make no mistake about it. At times it might seem a bit slow to some people, but the change in pace is ...
...read his books, and in Wolves of Calla we meet some new and old (for the constant reader of his works) characters who will make you laugh, cry and curse in anger, all depending on if you want to see the Tower fall or stand. It is hard to describe the book without spoiling the story, and I shall not go on further. What I will say however is, if you have not read all other books by Stephen King, you should probably go back through them all before ... Read review

A jolly warped read
Review of Abarat - Clive Barker by DolphinWatcher30

Advantages: An excellent & imaginative story
Disadvantages: Waiting for the next book

As a children's story this is some seriously dark writing and may not be suitable of younger readers, but for adults it's an exceptionally good read. The heroine of the story, Candy, finds herself pulled into a parallel world by a strange sea, a world that consists of 25 islands. 24 islands represent a particular hour of the day with the 25th a dark place of murder and madness. This initial volume sees Candy's travels around a selection of these ...
...trying to stay out of arms reach of the dark servants of the Lord of the 25th hour. This is a place where friend and foe are never what they seem and many are out for the capture of Candy. The illustrations included in this book give it an extra and enjoyably warped depth. Clive Barkers visual take on his fantasy world is one where even the good-guys can be seen as ugly monstrosities. You'll definitely want to read the next instalment. ... Read review

Don't Lose Out!
Review of Lord Loss (The Demonata) - Darren Shan by Borg

Advantages: Easy to read, hard to put down, gripping, thrilling
Disadvantages: None

...he must face the demon Lord Loss. I am probably being vague here, but I do not want to give much more away as that will spoil it for readers. At 200 or so pages this is just right. I feel there is far too much padding in adult books at the moment. And reading Lord Loss has made me feel surprised just at how good kids' fiction is. I have read the Harry Potter books, like most adults, but it did not cross my mind to read other works written for children. ...
...is quite graphic. There are no holds barred here and the author gets away with a lot of stuff. Death, blood, gore… But it is written with tongue in cheek - and with plenty of sick humour that did surprise me. The style is straight to the point. And very well written at that! Darren Shan is English born, real surname O'Shaughnessy. His first book, 'Ayuamarca,' was published in 1999, but did not sell well. This was an adult work, and it is his subsequent ... Read review
