Review of Plague of the Dead (The Morningstar Strain) - Z.A. Recht by awaykitcom

Advantages: None strong enough to be called advantages
Disadvantages: Confused sense of direction, charachters are note developed, better options out there

I find the zombie genre very hit and miss. This, sadly, is a miss. It's not nearly as bad as David Moody's 'Autumn' series but it suffers from a complete lack of originality. The writing is often acceptable but the author has an annoying habit of slipping into the childish for part sentences and full paragraphs. The plot jumps around from location to location but is handled in a way that you cannot really get a sense of the charachters and so you ... Read review

A darkness in the night.
Review of Pet Sematary - Stephen King by kell.b

Advantages: Enjoyable bed time read
Disadvantages: Left me wanting more

I found this a good read but it doesn't really get going until the second half although it does keep you gripped. My only gripe was that I wanted to know what happens after the story ends. Although nothing is left unfinished it did feel like something needed to be said with regards to how the charcters carried on. I especially wanted to know how certain things were explained away, like people returning from the dead. I also felt that some things ...
...daughter having possible psychic powers. It more then hinted at it, as it mentions her dreams and pictures she drew but it doesn't really go into enough detail. Some of the storyline and characters are of your staple horror genre, death, elderly people, country bumpkins, possible psychic powers, and love. Although for me this did not detract from the storyline at all. If you enjoy a good horror read, then pick this book up. I haven't gone in to ... Read review

Great Balls of Fire
Review of Portent - James Herbert by Starshine8

Advantages: So apt for our current climate change
Disadvantages: Don't read it at bedtime, the night will pass quickly, and you'll still be reading when it's time to goto work

...over evil. In Portent the world is a changing place, unexplained phenomena are occuring all over with disasterous results for the humans living on this planet, but as Herbert says the planet is trying to heal itself. Mixed in to the storyline are a set of gypsy twins, Mama Pitie a dark and foreboding figure hell bent on getting to the twins, James Rivers a Doctor working for the NOAA (National Oceananic and Atmospheric Administration, The Dream Man ...
...Diane, Father and Daughter who aid James while he unravels what exactly is happening. I whole heartedly recommend this book to anyone interested in what is happening now to our planet it's so apt, and although it may be pure fantasy it's amazing how James Herbert wrote about, what we are only now experiencing. ... Psychomarvelous!
Review of Psychosphere Trilogy - Brian Lumley by baalzamon

Advantages: Gripping sci-fi horror
Disadvantages: None that I can see!

...Psychomech Trilogy, comprised of Psychomech, Psychosphere and Psychamok, is one of the earlier works of best selling British sci-fi/horror writer Brian Lumley, who is best known for his best selling Necroscope series and numerous short story collections. I'll attempt to give a relatively brief summary of each of the books. PSYSCHOMECH The first book begins in the early 70s and introduces us to Richard Garrison, an English soldier who loses his ...
...- £8.24 for Psychomech or Psychosphere (paperback) and £10+ for Psychamok (hardback). I should imagine that high-street shops will charge similar prices to Amazon. Amazon Traders are slightly better, but ebay seems to be your best bet, with current auctions offering each of the three for around £1-2 plus a similar amount in postage. Can't say fairer than that now, can you? ... Read review

I have to stay awake, I have to stay awake
Review of Prey - Graham Masterton by Deenie

Advantages: Scary, cannot put the book down, very easy read!
Disadvantages: Scary, couldn't sleep :)

I bought this book last summer before going on holiday. I always go out and find at least four books to take away with me - holidays are usually the only time that I have to read for pleasure. I had never read anything by Graham Masterton and if it were not for the special deal that Makro were doing (three books for £5) I would probably gone for a Stephen King or Dean Koontz book. As this deal was so very good I chose three books from a limited selection, ...
...back of the book sounded okay, nothing special - even a bit over the top, so it was not one of the first books that I read when I arrived in Cyprus. However, when its turn came I found myself unable to put this book down! Yes the story was unbelievable and yet it gave me nightmares. I'm 23 and I was scared to turn off the light! No don't laugh, you may only laugh once you have read the book - and I guarantee you won't be laughing at the end of it. ... Read review
