King Kicks Again
Review of The Long Walk - Stephen King by
shanmarie
Advantages: Good Long Read
Disadvantages: It Finishes!!
As usual from the Master, an original unbelievably believable tale! No monsters no aliens no virus' no zombies but there are few stories I've ever read that can be any more horrifying than this. You hate the fact that there can be only one winner and hope for a happy ever after. But of course this is King , he doesn't do happy ever after and he needs his sacrificial lambs to slaughter just as you think they might get away with it !!! I spent the ...

Not your usual Stephen King
Review of The Colorado Kid - Stephen King by
sunmeilan
Advantages: Good characters
Disadvantages: Book doesn't end so much as peter out
...attention because it was in the crime fiction section, which is not where I would expect to find a Stephen King novel. As the novel was so short and Stephen King usually writes much longer books, I thought it must be another Stephen King. It was, however, by the Stephen King, so intrigued, I took it home. The book is included in a series of books called Hard Case Crime and was reminiscent of books by the likes of Dashiell Hammett and other authors ... ...as Carrie, Dolores Claiborne and The Shining. This book was a relief to King's fans, who had heard rumours that his novel-writing days were over. The story
Stephanie McCann is a twenty-one year old intern at a newspaper on a small island off the coast of Maine. Her colleagues, the ninety year old Vince Teague and sixty-five year old David Bowie, pleased with her progress, tell her of an unsolved mystery a few years before. A man was found dead by ...

A good read
Review of The Dark Tower Collection - Stephen King by
peteandcesca
Advantages: Worth the money and is a good read.
Disadvantages: Had no social life through this book.
The dark tower. The gunslinger.
The first part of the dark tower series is 'The gunslinger'. The story is set in a fantasy world about 'Roland of Gilead' the last of the gunslingers. The hero is on a quest to find the mysterious dark tower whilst also hunting 'The man in black', who you don't get introduced to until near the end. On his quest 'The gunslinger' meets other strange and wonderfull characters which make the book more readable, one of ... ...strange world. Although i thought the book was fantastic it seemed at times the story wasn't progressing, but towards the end it picked up again and i couldn't put it down. I was then just waiting to get my hands onto the second part.
I paid £7.99 from WHSmith but this was a couple of years ago and is probably alot cheaper now. Especially on the net or auction sites. ...

Be Were of the Wolf
Review of Cycle of the Werewolf - Stephen King by
Shortsharpshock
Advantages: Varied style, action-packed, vivid illustration.
Disadvantages: Short, stereotype ridden.
...King uses the lunar cycle as a loose means of telling his tale with monthly events being his mode of presenting the story yet again confounds the reader in that littered throughout are vivid illustrations of action sequences presented in an anime/comic book style. Perhaps, it is just due to the novels short length that these illustrations are often more descriptive than the words of King himself.
King has a penchant for experimentation and this ... ...are taken with the lunar cycle so those events such as Valentines Day can be exploited as unusual settings. King's obsession with small town America in particular those created by him in his home town of Maine leads to a book of stereotypes from self righteous vicars to disbelieving townsfolk. However, this is not a book in which to dwell on the details.
I have already hinted at the importance of the illustrations in this book and I feel I should ...

Four Past Midnight
Review of Four Past Midnight - Stephen King by
Sam_Garland
Advantages: 4 novel-length King stories in one volume.
Disadvantages: Some cliché ideas and narration.
...any fiction genre. In these four stories, he focuses on his old favourite - horror, with an equally pleasing sci-fi interlude in the form of the first story, 'The Langoliers'.
The Langoliers -
This is the first book in the collection and aptly titled 'One past midnight; The Langoliers'. It begins from the view of an airline pilot, Captain Brian Engle. Just into the airport after a particularly rough flight, he is given the disturbing information ... ...and unable to understand what has happened, the airport arranges a seat for him on the next aeroplane home. So he gets on board and falls to sleep fitfully.
When Brian awakes, he finds himself alone in his section of the plane but, as he walks into other compartments he realises that he's not the only passenger left. There's Dinah Bellman, a blind girl who's sight seems to extend past that of normal vision, Albert and Bethany - confused teenagers, ...
