King Kicks Again
Review of The Long Walk - Stephen King by shanmarie

Advantages: Good Long Read
Disadvantages: It Finishes!!

As usual from the Master, an original unbelievably believable tale! No monsters no aliens no virus' no zombies but there are few stories I've ever read that can be any more horrifying than this. You hate the fact that there can be only one winner and hope for a happy ever after. But of course this is King , he doesn't do happy ever after and he needs his sacrificial lambs to slaughter just as you think they might get away with it !!! I spent the ... Read review

Four Past Midnight
Review of Four Past Midnight - Stephen King by RedTape

Advantages: Book scares you into uncontrolled bowel movements
Disadvantages: May cause the reader to go into shock

...of macabre himself composed of four chilling short stories or novellas. If you love horror stories that can drive you into paranoia and have you sleeping with the lights on THIS IS THE PERFECT NOVEL TO READ. This book is composed of very different and intensely chilling novellas. These are: The Langoliers: This begins where passengers who have been sleeping on a plan wake up to find they are alone and that those who were awake have disappeared; and ...
...but I am going to tell you that from there, things take a horrifying turn, and no, it's nothing like the average airplane movie and does not include terrorists. Secret Window Secret Garden: A man accused of plagarism The Library Policeman: You have to read this. This is just sick, and scary. It's about the main character sam who has a terrifying encounter with "the library policeman" when he was younger and is now afraid to set foot in a library. ... Read review

tears in atlantis
Review of Hearts In Atlantis - Stephen King by readingac1

Advantages: five different stories, many pages
Disadvantages: the later stories seem a bit pointless

...into and addicted to playing Hearts for money. This eventually features the girlfriend from the first story. I really enjoyed this chapter of the book, as I too am currently on my first term of university, as well as it being an exciting read and showing some interesting things about human behaviour. This, in my opinion, is by far the best story in the book, and could easily be released as a book in its own right. I would say that this story is amongst ...
...has been a resounding success to me, but the next three stories, for me, could easily have been cut out. They are much much shorter than the first two and seem almost without point, and are for the most part completely uninteresting. These two feel tacked on, as if King needed to fill a quota of page numbers, or just got lazy towards the end. Getting through these last three was quite hard going, as I struggled to maintain my interest. I would recommend ... Read review

Do your dreamscapes feature this?
Review of Nightmares and Dreamscapes - Stephen King by Beckim

Advantages: Varied collection of short stories, plus a few surprises!
Disadvantages: Some stories a little confusing

A hefty book of classic King story-telling starts here...this is a collection of stories of the macabre, the murderous and some that just make you think long into the night...sweet dreams, my lovelies! STRUCTURE: The book starts with an introduction from King discussing his childhood feelings from reading horror stories, and the feelings that accompanied the creation of the stories to follow in the novel. It's an interesting read, with many points ...
...whatever you are told as a young child...anyone who says otherwise is either a child prodigy in my eyes, or has no imagination at all! ;p Next up is the actual anthology of 21 short stories plus an essay written on Little League baseball (which his son played) and a short poem also covering baseball. Concluding the book is a series of notes describing each piece of work featured in turn- how they came about and other interesting nuggets of information...an ... Read review

horror????
Review of The Dead Zone - Stephen King by jessjessjess

Advantages: first part of the book is mildly engaging
Disadvantages: too much American politics, not 'horror' enough, a bit hard to follow.

...OK and decided to borrow The Dead Zone by Stephen King, thinking it might be more like a horror story. It was also one of the shortest of his I could find at the library, being 467 pages long. I had heard a bit about Stephen King and knew he was a popular horror writer, confirmed by the popularity of the book at the library. ~Plot~ (contains some spoilers) The prologue basically introduces the characters using the past for the reader to get a feel ...
...and starts to get 'hunches'. The other character introduced at this point is Greg Stillson, a travelling saleman with uncontrollable anger. The book then goes onto describe a physcic experience at a fairground Johnny has and the relationship between him and another fellow teacher, Sarah. After a car crash, Johnny falls into a coma for 4 years and wakes up to find Sarah married, with a son and a change in American politics. Johnny gets a few physic ... Read review
