Characters

Kyle Hyde - Your character in the game. Kicked out of the police force a few years
ago and now works as a salesman for a company known as Red Crown.

Ed Vincent - The head of Red Crown and your boss. He's also a friend of your dad.
Involved in some shady dealings that Hyde helps with sometimes.

Rachel - A Red Crown employee and Ed's secretary. Hyde thinks she's a looker
and she feels the same about him. Tends to worry about Hyde.

Brian Bradley - The man Hyde is looking for while working for Red Crown. He was
Hyde's ex-partner.

Dunning Smith - The owner of Hotel Dusk. A little grumpy at times
and likes to tell fairy tales about the rooms.

Jeff Angel - A guest at Hotel Dusk who stays in Room 213. He is the guest
who brings Mila to the hotel. Maybe more to him than meets the eye?

Melissa Woodward - A very young girl staying in Room 219 with her father. She's
looking for her mother.

Kevin Woodward - Melissa's father and a surgeon. He tends to yell at Melissa
quite alot.

Louis DeNonno - A bellhop at Hotel Dusk. Used to be a pickpocket in New York
where Hyde busted him. He'll quickly become your best friend in the game.

Rosa Fox - The hotel maid. She lets Mila stay in her room. Tends to
always be angry with Louie. You can trust her judgment

Mila - Not too much is known about her. She's a mute and wearing
a braclet that is familiar to Hyde.

Helen Parker - An elderly woman with an eye patch. She's come to Hotel
Dusk wanting the room Hyde is staying in.

Story

Having waited months and months to get this game, I finally got my hands on a copy last week that my friend at work was selling. There wasn't a huge amount of hype for this game, but it has become a popular title for one of Nintendo's most recent handhelds, the DS. Using the console in a booklike fashion (similarly to Brain Training), the game has an interesting storyline, where everything from the past of all the guests is linked together, and to the dump known as 'Hotel Dusk'. Once a great and successful hotel, it has become run down, and has been taken over by Dunning Smith, who looks a bit like the stereotypical gangster tough guy. He has employed Rosa, the maid/cook/evrything else, and Louis, an ex conwho your character knows from his past.

As Kyle Hyde, you go to Hotel Dusk to complete some work as a salesman/'man who finds things that don't want to be found'. While travelling in this work, you are determined to find your former partner from your job in the LAPD, which you lost for shooting him... A little confused? Yes, so was I at first, but the story unravels as you play, and I'm not going to spoil it for you! The storyline, although a little implausible, is easy to follow and the gameplay is fairly easy going, however it can be easy to miss things sometimes, and you can end up wandering the corridors of the hotel for ages before you know what to do! Occasionally I have found it necessary to refer to walkthroughs that are readily available on the web, especially at the end of chapter 5, where you need to get the items/questions combination correct or you see the horrid game over screen all too often!

Another thing is that conversations in the game take forever, due to the limited space on screen, as you have to read it all. There is no spoken dialogue, only cheesy music! Could do with a better soundtrack, but I found it easier to listen to my MP3 player and turn the volume on my DS down.

Overall a great game that I am enjoying, albeit the odd game over, and would recommend to anyone who doesn't mind spending a bit of time on a game.
