Six years ago, I ditched the rusty twin tub and decided to join the 21st century. The idea was to save time. So, being the broke single mum I was then, I ordered the cheapest one out of the catalogue and it was duly delivered and installed. So much for saving time. Used to standing over a twin tub, I watched the first few washes swirling round before it truly sank in that I could go and catch up on Eastenders without flooding the kitchen... During the last six years, my poor machine has seen me through two babies in terry nappies, eight dogs worth of towels and bedding, and I run a grooming ... more

4 Stars Wash Day Blues 13/07/2000

I've had my Hotpoint Electron 800+ for about three years, and it's only let me down once...it needed a new belt and that was easily put right. It's OK as far as 800rpm machine go. It gets the washing clean, so it's doing it's job. Infact i can't really think of much bad to say for it at all except maybe one thing...it's NOISY. I live in a top flat, and I always worry when it's wash day that the little old bid downstairs is driven from her home. I have to close all doors between the kitchen and lounge, because it makes watching TV or talking to someone on the phone a nightmare. I can't say this ... more

    5 Stars good washers 10/08/2000

Advantages Advantages not too many complicated programms

Disadvantages Disadvantages you need to change the spin and spin jeans twice.

I have had a WM51 for at a good few years now,I have always found Hotpoint washers very reliable. They give a 5 yr parts guarentee with all their washers which is fine if its a big job after the first year, but can cost you if its only a small job,ie cheap parts, and you still pay for the labour cost. The washer is good, an 800 spin is fine for most modern fabrics, most dont need a fast spin, but I do find I have to spin jeans twice in winter to save a little electric on drying on a bad day, warm weather is fine to be dried outside. It washes well on all types of dirt whatever the load. After all ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Unreliable

I have had 2 Hotpoint washing machines and have found both of them adequate washers but break down frequently. Hotpoint seems to be making a lot of money from service and spare parts. Then when the machines break down beyond repair they tempt you into buying a new Hotpoint rather than a more reliable make by offering a replacement at a very low cost. Then the whole cycle starts again – more spare parts and call out fees. I have a Bosch now and I find it a better washer and it has yet to let me down. ... more

    Advantages Advantages none

Disadvantages Disadvantages Doesn't last long with me

I have had not much look with my washer machine. every year i must have to buy a new one, If it not one thing wrong with it, its something else, although my mothers washer machine lasted her for 11 years she has had it fixed twice. I bought hotpoint thinking it would last me for years with no trouble, but i thought wrong. I dont think anyone should but this product, or though it might work wonders for you. The only good thing i got out of my washer was eventually it managed to do the washing. ... more
