When we moved into our house we pretty much had nothing in the way of appliances to kit our new home except for the telly and hi-fi. As much as the idea of living off take away every day appealed to me, our budget wouldn't quite be able to stretch to that so we had you do some heavy duty shopping.
One of our major purchases for the kitchen was this Hotpoint FF187E fridge freezer. Well technically we bought the FF187EG - which is the exact same model only in graphite, rather than white (it is also available in satin aluminium, which is probably the colour you'd get if you were to mix white and graphite together).
When looking to buy our fridge freezer (FF) we noticed that a lot of the ones on the market seem to have larger fridge sections and smaller freezer ones. I don't know if this is because most people eat more fresh food, or if they have additional separate freezers to put more stuff into? I just know that we were looking for one that had at roughly half of the space given up for the freezer drawers due to our reliance on freezing food. The FF187 doesn't quite have a half fridge/half freezer set up, but it was the closest we could find in our price range and it copes easily with the demands we put on in (2 adults).
*** Fridge Section ***
There are 4 shelves provided in this section, along with 2 easily removable salad crisper compartments (don't worry, they're of a decent size and can be used for plenty of things other than salad!). There is also a wine/bottle rack (which can be removed if required to make more space), and an enclosed dairy compartment in the door. As you'd expect, there is also an interior light to help with those late night trips to the fridge. The net fresh food storage volume is 180 litres.
*** Freezer Section ***
There are 4 drawers, all with clear fronts so you can easily see in to check what's at the bottom of the drawer without having to empty everything out. The 2 bottom drawers come with a clever little ice cube maker build into the drawer when is a great space saving design. We've had our freezer for over 14 months and there are no signs of any frost on it, yet it remains ice cold all the time. The net frozen food storage volume is 84 litres.
Size wise it is quite big, the delivery man almost had to take it back because he couldn't fit it through our back door. But I think that says more about the smallness of our house rather than the massiveness of the FF. Its actual dimensions are (H)187, (W)60, (D)65.5cm. The doors are fully reversible so you can arrange them to open whichever way suits the set up of your kitchen. Also, it is an energy efficiency class 'A' model.
If you're working to a certain budget the price of the FF currently starts from around £300 depending on where you buy it. It's a fairly common item so you should have no problem with availability.
Advantages: A Rated, No Defrosting, large capacity, door alarm, 5 year parts warranty Disadvantages: None
...old. Having had a Hotpoint before and knowing how reliable thay are I decided to get the Hotpoint FF187E in Graphite.
Reviews for this appliance were also helpful in my decision.
This is an A rated appliance.

Advantages: Very stylish and well specified. Disadvantages: Only Hotpoint can rehang door.
The Hotpoint FF187M was not our first choice for our replacement fridge freezer after our Beko freezer died. Unfortunately, as seems to be the way of things, the Daewoo model that I had my eyes on was available...nowhere.
After hearing several non complimentary things about modern Hotpoint I was a bit unsure as to my choice however now the Fridge Freezer is in place I stand by my decision.

A word of warning however, the door can only be rehung by Hotpoint engineers, make sure that your space is suitable for a right hinged door or budget for a man to rehang it.
Overall very well specced unit and a lot of bang for your buck ...

When I go to buy a new product of this kind of magnitude I always check around read all the reviews and check all the details of the different products out there, let me save you some trouble . . . . . . . this machine is fantastic!
It looks amazing, all my friends who have come around my house and end up popping their heads into the kitchen think it looks amazing (I have the Satin Aluminium finish).
It has brilliant features like i-care, where ... ...the fridge and the freezer and adjusts the amount of cooling accordingly. It has a child-lock on it so that your children or inquisitive friends don't come around and start fiddling with buttons. It has a great couple of buttons that either chill the fridge down a bit more for when you're loading or just finished loading your shopping into it, and one that will reduce the temprature in the freezer even more so you can chill a bottle of white wine ...

Advantages: Excellent value for money, with good looks, and extra features Disadvantages: Two breakdowns in 12 months, lots of mess, and loss of food!!!
I bought the Hotpoint 187EG fridge freezer when we moved house in September 08, and initially was thrilled with both the looks, capacity, and the extra features like the suspended wine rack, the audible door alarm, and the mess free ice cube storage. It appeared to do everything I had wanted and more besides. However when it was nine months old, we had to call out the engineer because we had a rise in temperature, and neither the fridge nor freezer ... ...motor) being replaced. We went merrily on our way again, but one day before the warranty expired, the same thing happened again. Again we called out the engineer, who this time condemned the fridge freezer, and advised us to visit the supplying store of Comet to organise a replacement. This is how I came to be reading these reviews, as I wondered if other people had had the same experiences. I needed to know before ordering a replacement, whether ...

Advantages: Good design features; nice quality plastics Disadvantages: Compressor failed within 2 weeks of purchase
...weeks of purchase
Hotpoint FF187 - decided to buy this because of useful features such as the ice cube feature for the freezer door fronts and the quality of the plastics for the drawers (not as brittle as some other manufacturers offerings). However from the word go it was very slow to freeze and within 2 weeks the compressor had failed. A brand new replacement has been delivered today and I have also decided to take out an extended warranty for ...
