Advantages: Large drum, plenty of wash options, child lock, LCD display Disadvantages: Annoying button configuration, quite long cycles, functions look confusing at first
...these times quite long compared to my old machine, which would complete a 40 degree cotton wash in about forty minutes, however it's a bit of a trade-off here - my clothes definitely come out of the Hotpoint washing machine a lot cleaner than they would have done in my old Servis. Most modern machines do take about the same time as the Hotpoint to complete a cycle, so perhaps I'm being picky. As mentioned below, there are Fastwash options if you're in a real hurry.
The Super Silent claim sounds good, as nobody wants a noisy machine but I wouldn't call this washer exactly Silent. Quiet, yes, you're aware of a moderate humming sound when spinning and a water-sloshing-about sound when washing but nothing worse than that. It will be noisier if the machine isn't made level using the adjustable feet.
However, anything is better than my old...

Advantages: No defrosting Disadvantages: None as yet
...This year everything seems to be breaking down, this time it was the turn of the fridge. Panic immediately set in, where were we going to get a fridge at very short notice, it was a warm Saturday night and it was full from the ritual Saturday morning shop. I am sure all electrical appliances sit there day after day just waiting for the worst possible moment to breakdown.
I grabbed my Littlewoods catalogue as I knew they had a "3-day delivery" if you were prepared to pay an extra charge of £20, plus the fact that their order department was open seven days a week. I had hoped to buy another Electrolux as it had served us well over quite a few years. Never mind we were desparate.
All three larder fridges...

Advantages: Great whilst it works Disadvantages: 4 months after purchase - Faulty!
...We bought a Hotpoint BWD 129 washer Dryer in Dec 2006 as part as part of a brand new kitchen we had installed. It replaced a Hoover Washer dryer which had worked prefectly for 3 years, but because we wanted a built in model, we had to change it.
We chose the Hotpoint BWD 129. We have had good and bad Hotpoint products previously. Our first Hotpoint washing machine lasted 10 years. Our second lasted 18 months!
As a washer dryer, whilst it is working, its fine, it does what you want a washer dryer to do. It takes a 5 kg load and has a 1200 spin speed. All the controls are easy to see, reach and operate. The soap / conditioner compatrment is large and easy to clean.
It is quiet when operating and completes it washing cycles in good time. We only use it as a dryer when absolutely necessary, but have used it a few times and it work...
