I had the same old Tumble Dryer for around 6years and decided purely for aesthetic reasons to upgrade and modernise, preferrably purchasing one that matched my recently bought Washing Machine.
I trawled around the usual suspects, Curry's Comet and Online and eventually found the perfect match.
*THE PRODUCT*
Made by Hotpoint I believed the very attractive grey and anthracite colouring matched perfectly with my washer and blended in really well with my kitchen.
The capacity is upto 7kg and well suited to a home like mine with at least a couple of washings done each day. The tumble dryer was a god send in our rain drenched country, escpecially during the winter months.
The design is flawless and streamlined with a door hiding the usual ugly round door you get in most tumble dryers.
The dials and programmes are easy and well displayed, with many economy features to cut down on power usage which is very important to me both economically and environmentally.
The push release door was also a nice feature, which seemed a nice touch at least until last week when it decided to malfunction and refused point bloody blank to close.
*MY EXPERIENCE*
Perhaps it was over usage of the machine, banging shut the door with too much gusto, God knows but the design feature that had attracted me to the product in the first place, was to be the blight on this almost perfect, time saving piece of equipment.
On further inspection by my nephew, who is good at everything and by and large a fixer of everything, even he was unable to fix the catch. His very thorough inspection revealed that the latch and catch which in an ideal world should connect on the door shutting was in fact broken due mainly to the inferior design and flimsy quality of the materials.
On phoning Hotpoint I was informed the design had been updated and therefor I would have to try the Internet and see if I could find the said part . My Tumble Dryer is around 14 months old and I believe the company have had similar problems to mine and discontinued the latch on my machine. No recall from them, no redress as my warranty had expired. That will teach me not extending the warranty!!
*THE SOLUTION*
No luck on the Internet, so Im stuck with a machine with an un-clloseable door, but fear not I've been hanging out more washing, using the radiators, the house now resembles a Chinese Laundry and when I do use the machine I stick a a chair firmly against the door in order to keep it closed.
**WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT**
Eh I dont think so, good looks dont always make for good quality, I'm thoroughly disappointed with Hotpoint and their cheap approach and inferior fittings. The next Tumble dryer I buy will be a different brand and back to the old-fashioned but far superior design.
**Price** I paid around £199 at Curry's Hotoint products, hopefully better than mine are widely avaliable.
Thanks for Reading and roll on the Spring when all my laundry can be blowing in the breeze and the house will be washing free!!!
