I have had this washer dryer for three years...In my opinion three years too long. In fact the first one i had lasted one month before it broke down, the retailer immediately replaced it with a new one...This should have warned me of things to come! Since then i have had the engineers out well over 6 times luckily i purchased insurance...The faults I have had are as follows :- leaking, no heat ( twice) very noisy knocking noise, not spinning and blocking up...there is no access point for the filter so you have to get the engineer in to take the machine apart and unblock it!! Not only have i had these faults in my opinion the machine is extremely noisy...And finally, what prompted me to write this review It has just taken the dryer 3 hours to dry three towels that were barely damp...I know that washer dryers cant be compared to dryers only, for their drying capability but this dryer, if you can call it that is just a joke..... It will be the last hotpoint I will ever purchase...In fact i would rather wash my clothes by hand than but another one..
Advantages: Great washer, easy to use Disadvantages: Take's ages to dry
I bought the Hotpoint WD440 as my first ever Washer Dryer for my new home. Having previously lived at home where my mum or the laudret did my washing, I had never reallly had the need to use a washing machine myself. In fact when confronted with having to do my own washing, I was scared about all the dials and buttons and settings and was convinced that I would shrink all my clothes or dye my clothes pink with that ellusive red sock!
My first beautiful ... ...washes. With the Hotpoint WD440, there are only 3 dials which you use to select your drying time, the heat and the programme (which is written in plain English on the front of the machine). There are 4 buttons for you to select any special features like, reduces creases, hot drying time etc. And then another two buttons to start/stope the cycle and on/off.
The dryer leaves the clothes with a lovely finish, once they are completely dry. However to ...

Advantages: Appear good value Disadvantages: Dangerous, poorly made, poor after sales service,
Had a previous Hotpoint washer dryer years age and apart from brushes twice it ran faultless for 8 years.
BUT THEY ARE NOW A RE-BADGED INDESIT
Purchased a WD440 last August 2007, once I brought it home it did not work, and was replaced with a new one 2 weeks later.
That lasted until Christmas, when a new motor, Epram, and Module was fitted under warranty, well after 3 weeks.
Then in August the PCB burnt out, a big hole where the mains connected ... ...out of warranty, fitted that myself. (£92.00)
Then failed again at 14 months this time got so hot I thought it was going to catch fire, lights went crazy door wouldn't open.
Took it out and its going to the dump, don't want to burn my house down.
WILL ADVISE ANYONE
DO NOT TOUCH A HOTPOINT
made by INDESIT
And dont bother with customer service after 1/2 an hour wanted to sell me insurance and de-scaler for hard water areas.
Didn't care if the ...

Advantages: Better than washing clothes in the bath I suppose! Disadvantages: Will probably be evicted by landlord due to the noise!
...seriously let down by this hotpoint machine.
I purchased this version after my previous Hotpoint washing machine packed up after 5 years, just after the extended warranty expired!
I purchased this one as it had a dryer too [or so I thought] The dryer is absolutely useless. It does take two hours or more just to do a couple of towels. It seems to turn a few times and then stop for as long a period as it starts. It is pathetic. It would no way be ... ...the clothes come out smelly from some sort of burning smell, and VERY VERY creased. I dried a duvet cover for about 2 hours, only to find it kept teh puddle of water in the bottom of the drum, and thus left a whole half wetter than when it went in. There is no problem with the out pipe by the way.
And now, it has developed a MASSIVE loud vibrate noise on its spin cycle, completely unbearable, it sounds like an earthquake. I can find, nor gain any ...

Quick review of Hotpoint WD440G
Don't do it. I previously had a Zanussi for 4.5 years, left it behind when we moved (basement flat), regretting it now. This machine seems designed more for Hotpoint's profit margins as it's impossible to own this machine and not have either an extended warranty or pay out for engineer visits.
Basically, the drying cycle will trip if it overheats when the filter gets blocked. Filter access is not possible without removing the back (invalidating the warranty).
There is no warning that this will happen, only when your clothes come out wet and cold after 2 hours drying. Then you are left needing an engineer and Hotpoint are counting the cash - again. This has happened 3 times in 2 years, and I'm pretty careful. ...
