Recognition or Rubbish?
Advantages: 10% off days! Disadvantages: High interest rates, outdated and restrictive payment method, yet another so called "reward" scheme!
...nostalgia!
Anyway House of Fraser one of Britain’s leading department stores. I find it great for casual clothes, my local store stocks a large range of Ralph Laren, which is perfect for wearing going to the Health Club in, it is also good for buying general household appliances. Hugo regularly sends me his Fraser Card bill and blames the size of it on a Gentleman named Ted Baker! (Sorry, family joke!)
The Fraser Card ... ...can be used in any House of Fraser store nationally (The house of Fraser brand is franchised under a variety of different names- my local store is Barkers in Kensington)
House of Fraser have just launched a revised version of their store card, the card now includes a reward scheme, where by you collect points with everything you purchase. I personally cannot be bothered with yet another reward scheme, why do people always want more, ... more
Yet another store card opinion! I guess I have what is now an old-fashioned view of consumerism. I remember the good old days when being a cardholder really meant something. For instance at M&S and John Lewis it was the only electronic payment method that they accepted. If a cardholder became dissatisfied and threatened to cancel their account, they would have had the Sales Advisors cleaning your shoes if you had so wished (well, virtually) it not only showed a healthy credit rating, but also gave a sense of belonging and loyalty. But it’s all changed now; I guess that’s why I had (and still do have) a large number of store cards. Even my Harvey Nicks card is becoming something every professional ‘thirty something’ owns. Enough nostalgia!

The Fraser Card as it is affectionately termed, is a store card, which can be used in any House of Fraser store nationally (The house of Fraser brand is franchised under a variety of different names- my local store is Barkers in Kensington)
House of Fraser have just launched a revised version of their store card, the card now includes a reward scheme, where by you collect points with everything you purchase. I personally cannot be bothered with yet another reward scheme, why do people always want more, can’t we be happy with paying the price on the ticket?!
If you’re interested…
Every quarter if you have earned enough points you will be sent a statement and your reward vouchers, which can be used against future purchases.
For every £1 spent, 3 points will be accumulated, when 1500 points are earn a £15 voucher will be sent to you, and for every 500 points after the initial amount you will be sent a £5 voucher. Reward vouchers can also be exchanged for AIR MILES.
The card also includes the standard features, including being able to spread your payments (although I clear the balance monthly) Account holders are offered exclusive offers and they are offered services such as account cover- this includes price, purchase and payment protection. Pretty standard really.
Opening the account was extremely straightforward, you simply fill out a simple application form and within a couple of days I had received my card. I cannot find the interest rate written anywhere, I think it is about the same as my Russell and Bromley store card at 30% (approx) with interest accruing at such vast amount it really isn’t a good idea to have a store card unless you intend to pay off the balance each month.
Other Cardholder benefits include 10% off days. These are held around three or four times a year. The first time you use your card your card you also get 10% off. Can’t argue with that!

Advantages: discounted shopping in H of F Disadvantages: daylight robbery!
Initially the House of Fraser store card seemed like a good idea - I got 10% off my first purchase and I get 10% off on specified days. I know the interest rates on these store cards are extortionate so when I opened the account I asked for the full amount to be debited from me each month.
The first time I used it only the minimum amount was taken out - not to worry though - I easily solved this by setting up standing order thingy on my internet ... ...£105 in H of F. On 1st Feb £4.22 was automatically debited from me. I couldn't remember exactly how much the bill was for but I paid £100 through my bank - which went on 2nd Feb. Got the statement today and how much interest should I have been charged on less than £1.50 do you think? A couple of pence? In fact, I was charged a staggering £5.70. How did they work that one out? I rang up GEC Capital (the card managers) and was told this:
If you don't ...

Advantages: 10% off discount days Disadvantages: hidden rules on loyalty points
...Having been a loyal House of Fraser customer for years whilst I was working full time, my Frasercard was replaced by a Recognition Card just about the time I retired. I am now not able to spend as much and it is taking me some time to save the points. I had managed to get my total up to 1079 and was aghast when I received my last statement to see that a total of 214 points had been deducted as "expired". So I am now down to 865 - a long way from ... ...I complained bitterly to my local store, only to be told that "that's the rules" and advising me to look out for the next double or triple points event when, presumably I am expected to buy something whether I need it or not. So much for loyalty deserving recognition!! Personally I can't see what benefit this rule is to the Company. ...

Advantages: Special Offers, Reward Points, Buy Now Pay Later Options Disadvantages: High APR
ever taking out a storecard is that you can pretty much guarantee that the Apr is always some ridiculous figure. The Argos card is no different, they currently charge 25.9%, which as far as these sort of cards go is not really too bad. Especially when you consider some other storecards such as; House Of Fraser 29.3%, Topshop 28%.
Other benefits of the Argos cards are that they are nearly always offering additional ?Buy Now Pay Later? offers. However as part of their current deals available you get two options of paying later. The first involves you paying nothing for 6 months, to qualify for this you have to spend £195 or more in an Argos store or via their website. To qualify for ?pay nothing for 12 months,? you have to be buying a selected item which is marked specifically so in their catalogue or website. However be prepared ...

Advantages: 10% off first order, discounts and vouchers via card holder events, 56 days interest free credit, free catalogue and advice Disadvantages: high interest charged if you don’t pay your balance off, delivery options could be more flexible, calls to customer service vary depending on where you get routed to....!!
. The card can also be used at Bhs Stores. The card itself is operated by GE Capital, who are one of the largest credit card operators, operating cardsstorecards such as Debenhams, House of Fraser, Harrods, etc as well as major stores in the US such as Macy’s, JC Penny’s and so forth. (I have some interesting news for US residents who may own some of these GE capital Storecards, which I will mention later under worldwide customer services* GE capital - is the company that operates most Store credit cards in UK/US)…so read on..
