I know I am not alone in this and so would have to recommend trying this set of books to help get the message across to their darling toddlers.

***Background***

Jane Yolen writes many different types of books including science fiction and fantasy. She also writes books for children and this is one in her series of rhyming Dinosaur books that we found.

Mark Teague illustrates his own picture books as well as being responsible for all the artwork in this series of books.

***The Story***

"What if a dinosaur catches the flu?
Does he whimper and whine in between each Atchoo?"

As we go through the book we see pictures of different sick dinosaurs all doing lots of horrible things that won't help them get any better, until we are told,

"No…."

We are then shown that dinosaurs do as the doctors tell them, get lots of rest and take their medicine without a fuss.

The story ends with….

"He closes his eyes. He whispers good night.
Then Mama and Papa tiptoe out the door.
Get well. Get well, little dinosaur."

***The Illustrations***

The pictures in this book are very comical as we see all the dinosaurs in situations that we would be in if we had a sick child. We are introduced to lots of different types of dinosaurs and these are shown inside the front cover with all their names underneath them.

***My Thoughts***

Rhyming books are tremendous fun for children as they find them easier to remember and can join in with you as you are reading the story. This book has easy rhymes to memorize and doesn't have a lot of text of each page despite the large size of the pages.

The pictures show happy smiling faces on the parents when the dinosaurs are being good and this is great for helping to explain to children about the importance of doing the right thing.

This is the first of these books that I have seen but I would love to read the others as I feel they would be great for helping children understand the importance of rules on how to behave in different situations.
